Yessss I am forever proselytizing, but with snails haha "have you accepted SNAILS into your life??" I think they occupy the "cute x icky" matrix in the best way, and I’m glad my pro-snail agenda is working 😂

Awww I love you!! lol team NOBODY MOVES assemble! (Ass-emble?) I had to do an early all-day school visit yesterday, and relived my weekend poop situation all over again (all while during my presentation, I shared with students that I was scared to poop in school when I was a kid 😅)

What is the IceCube neutrino observatory? Neutrinos are elusive particles that rarely interact, but can create flashes of light when they do. Most neutrino detectors are giant water tanks surrounded by light detectors. IceCube is kilometer-long strings of detectors embedded in the Antarctic ice.

Bodies are wild! And so much stuff is connected, so I wouldn’t be surprised if your theory checks out!

Perhaps this will be the winter I experiment with fibre 🧐

Maris Wicks @mariswicks.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I get a lot of fibre at home (and am delightfully regular lol TMI) , so I don’t really know how to test this out on the road. I do have a book about pooping on my TBR list ("You’ve Been Pooping All Wrong: How to Make Bowel Movements a Joy" and yes, I love that the title involves a colon)

Good to know! I rarely travel (and that’s when it’s A Problem™️) but maybe having something that I know will work would help! *starts chanting FIBRE! FIBRE! FIBRE!*

It shows!! And the behind-the-scenes stuff is just amazing. I’m hoping to get a crew together to see it (we’re 2 hours away from the closest theater, so it’s gonna be a damn celebration!!)

The fiber is a good idea! I eat a lot of veg at home, and it’s hard to get that with travel food (even if I pack snacks). I should try something like that (but I’d be worried about overdoing it and then having a bathroom emergency situation 😳). Gross truth is the best truth; thanks for sharing!!

Maris Wicks @mariswicks.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Oooh I should try the water thing! I like a mug of hot water in the winter (to warm up).

I do try to maintain my coffee routine, but if I have too much (or it’s too strong), it’s baaaad. Visiting a familiar bathroom helps too (like if I’ve been to the airport or conference center before). I feel like it’s like learning poop magic and spells hahaha like I’m a poop witch in training!

I am also bad at hydrating!!! But I also hate having to pee a ton, especially in active transportation situations! (But it is worth it. I think I need a motivational sticker to remind me "You gotta pee if you wanna poop.")

Serious question to my fellow work-from-home folks: When you have to travel for work for more than 1 day, how do you poop?

The way I remember how to ID them is that the winter plumage has a head spot looks like another eye in the side of their head! Lol and for the summer plumage, just a googly eye (And yes, they are so sweet!!)
Pencil drawing of a Bonaparte’s gull with winter plumage. The gull is floating on the water; they have a white head and tummy, with light grey wings and a black tail. They also have a black spot on their head next to their eye, that makes them look like they have two cartoon eyes on one side of their head.

Hahaha sorry for the suspense! I was on the road all day. ANUS CAKE!!!!
Someone has tried to bake a pink cake in a circular Bundt pan, but the batter has risen too high and is getting sucked into the hole in the middle of the pan and the cake just looks like a GIANT butthole. It’s in the oven, and the oven rack is in front of the butthole cake, so it just looks like it is in cake jail.

My advice as a science illustrator is that if you ever get a chance to draw the Cambrian explosion, you should go all in and spend hours researching every single one of these insane animals. 🦞🐙🦀🦑 Evolution is such a trip. I'm so grateful to have briefly existed on this gorgeous planet. 🤯 #sciart
