It’s 17th of August and this unnecessary, mostly plastic, Halloween crap is back for sale in some Irish shops already. I bet most of this will be in landfill by next year 😟 In my opinion it should be outlawed…

Playbooks, plagiarism and a pig’s head: new claims surrounding a star Cambridge professor
Jason Arday was regarded as an academic superstar, but then questions about his work prompted scrutiny of his backstory and counterclaims of racism When the superstar academic Jason Arday took to the stage at the British Sociological Association’s 75th anniversary conference earlier this year, he delivered a talk called Wanted Dead or Alive: the Playbook. The youngest black professor in Cambridge University’s history told an audience of his peers that the playbook in question had helped bring down some of the biggest names in US academia. Conservative “activists” were trawling through the work of black academics, looking for anything to use against them: inconsistencies, citation errors, passages in their work that were similar to existing papers. Speaking ill of the dead is one thing, but it’s truly pathetic to do so for social media attention when you could have confronted them to their face when they were alive.

An oil on canvas painting showing a knight or soldier in his armour and helm, shield propped up next to him, as he sits with his head down and a woman in a fine green gown embraces him.A black and white pencil and wash art work showing two young children, one boy and one girl, picking grapes from a vine. The boy stands on a bench and places one hand on the shoulder of the girl for balance as he reaches for the bunch, while she stands beneath with her skirt lifted to catch their haul. A small dog stands with his front paws on the bench, watching their attempts.A man stands with his arms crossed, a falcon standing on his wrist; the man is looking back over his shoulder at a woman who is also holding a falcon. Their eyes aren't meeting, and there is a sense of longing in their faces; the man's falcon is leaving small drops of blood on his falconing gloves, suggesting a recent kill.
