Den "alles als wäre es Scientology"-Bezug zur derzeitigen quasireligiösen Tech-Verblendung hab ich auch schon gesehen.

So convergent are the ideologies of neoreaction, x-risk and Affective Altruism, along with associated earlier movements like transhumanism and extraplanetarity, that this has been defined by Gebru and Torres (2024) as ‘TESCREAL’ (Transhumanism, Extropianism, Singularitarianism, Cosmism, Rationalism, Effective Altruism, and Longtermism). ‘TESCREALism’ and ‘TESCREALists’ are increasingly used as shorthands for the broad spectrum of ideologies and their adherents.

Like Scientology, TESCREALism is profoundly science-fictional. However, TESCREALists tend towards a more self-consciously intellectual SF: a legacy that goes from Olaf Stapledon through Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Azimov to the post-scarcity, post-singularity visions of Vernor Vinge, Greg Egan and Iain M. Banks (Carroll Citation2024). Jameson (Citation2017) might have described the older, limited, unreflexive tradition of SF as ‘historical and dated’ (p.215), but the TESCREALists appear to take the most superficial interpretation as inspiration. For example, TESCREALists appear influenced by the postmodernist cyberpunks, but they lack any of the ambivalence of cyberpunk towards new technologies and its often outright hostility towards neoliberal capitalism. But as Carroll argues, tech oligarch SF fans use their superficial reinterpretations as a form of ‘metapolitics’, an attempt to redefine what politics are possible.
