'Unto the Godless What Little Remains', whose author is incredibly attractive and recently achieved one-armed pull ups, basically predicted ChatGPT and all this shittery with AI. The author is a genius. I wish I knew him.

If you ever feel discouraged as a writer, think of the time I got a vaguely threatening, negative personal rejection from a transgressive lit magazine.

I've been yapping about this for years. The whole rest of the world reads translated fiction on the regular. The Hugos *really* need this category.

Not just anecdotal observation (reels and TikToks becoming more popular than long-form videos, etc), but research seems to point out the same: news.northeastern.edu/2024/01/23/d... brainmindsociety.org/posts/are-at...

The cynic in me thinks people nowadays have shittier attention spans (me included), so a series with the scale of ASOIAF won't happen again anytime soon

I liked the mechanicality of VHS, but I'm aware it's pure nostalgia. I miss physical media in general, though, especially video rentals. I think the scarcity and intentionality of VHSs and DVDs made me appreciate the movies more.

Yeah I feel you, the rules themselves are okay. I just hate that the Anglo SFF scene is seemingly proud of its diversity while being vastly less diverse than, say, literary fiction.

I'm sure that's true, but SF is insanely more insular. The Nobel prize recognises the existence of fiction outside the Anglosphere.
