I also just remembered that in one scene, they are talking about the band For Tracy Hyde, but are calling it フォトハイ、which I hadn't heard before. It's typical Japanese truncation, but if I had seen/heard it without knowing, I'd never have guessed what it meant. 😆

Gorgeously shot in pastel colours, it explores grief when life around you goes on. #Sayounara #

(Sayounara) tonight, and really liked it. It centres on teenage girl Yuki, played wonderfully by 芋生悠 Haruka Imou, living in a sleepy seaside town, dealing with the suicide of her closest friend and all the horrid high school clique stuff.

This #Dabda live song from Pentaport Festival in Incheon this August is amazing. ❤️ How to end a song with everyone playing drums. 😅 youtu.be/QAVtIpuHCVI?is=2Brsz5nFHVE…

This is pretty great, found it via a Bandcamp post by Boris. Kazuya plays sax with Boris sometimes, and this is his main band. #igloo is somewhere between experimental, free jazz, post punk, avant-garde, noise and improvisation - but all very listenable and very energetic.

I love/hate Japanese onomatopoeic words - love them because they're fun, hate them because there seem to be millions of them 😆 Today's new one to me is ガタゴト (gatagoto), meaning rattling or clattering.

Oops, I created a new person there by accident, an amalgam of the original 漫画家 (manga artist) Tatsuki Fujimoto and the director of the animated film Kiyotaka Oshiyama...

Before I see the Kore-eda live-action version of Look Back (he's my favourite movie director) I thought I'd watch the 2024 animated adaptation by Kiyotaka Fujimoto. It's really good, I wonder how it can be improved - but I have high hopes for Kore-eda, and they're rarely misplaced.

Jiji and his friend Buddy love a bit of playful wrestling. It's so funny, they're like siblings, even though they just happen to live fairly near to each other. They're both still young and about the same age, and Buddy comes around to play every day. 🥰 #CatsOfBluesky #BlackCats

(Until the T-shirt dries), and while at times I felt like shouting at the characters 😅, the one thing that you see very rarely is a relationship drama on TV where all the main characters end up "alone", but not unhappy. And that I really liked.

I just stumbled across this new track by 拍謝少年 Sorry Youth, which is the theme tune to a new Taiwanese/Korean co-produced TV series 再見1987 (Goodbye 1987). Wonder when this will become available outside Taiwan, it started airing on 30 Aug on Taiwan's PTS Taigi (Hokkien) TV.

There is no song that reminds me more of and takes me back to Zürich in the mid-1980's quite like Les Rita Mitsouko's Marcia Baila. RIP Catherine Ringer. #LesRitaMitsouko youtu.be/1zWlnzFXcKY?is=9G8zFlRMxYY…

I just watched 夏の砂の上 (On Summer Sand) and it's pretty much my favourite kind of movie. Slow, langorous, understated, with characters dealing with tragedy in their own way. And Nagasaki and its hills is almost an additional character. Loved this a lot.

I loved 鎌野愛 Ai Kamano's album HUMAN when it came out in 2022. This is a live track from the album, recorded in 2023 but only just released, and it's lovely.

That song almost convinces me never to sell our house until I'm dead. And I also think Basic Physics and (especially) Ampersand are amazing - if you've been in a very long-term relationship it will probably ring bells...

I know it's way too soon to call albums of the year, but it's a strong contender for me. I don't think anyone outside Japan or special interest groups would know them, but.. someone may check it out and like it too 😊. #その感激と記録 #sonokangekitokiroku linkco.re/bQCqb0sF?lang=ja
