I watched 左様なら (Sayounara) tonight, and really liked it. It centres on teenage girl Yuki, played wonderfully by 芋生悠 Haruka Imou, living in a sleepy seaside town, dealing with the suicide of her closest friend and all the horrid high school clique stuff.

Before I see the Kore-eda live-action version of Look Back (he's my favourite movie director) I thought I'd watch the 2024 animated adaptation by Kiyotaka Fujimoto. It's really good, I wonder how it can be improved - but I have high hopes for Kore-eda, and they're rarely misplaced. #LookBack #ルックバック

I just watched 夏の砂の上 (On Summer Sand) and it's pretty much my favourite kind of movie. Slow, langorous, understated, with characters dealing with tragedy in their own way. And Nagasaki and its hills is almost an additional character. Loved this a lot. #夏の砂の上 #OnSummerSand

That depends on what you consider an obstruction. It looks like this... So cars have to park on the pavements, leaving only half of the pavement to pedestrians. My argument was that this is more of a problem than than delivery robots (at least for now), and the govt is unwilling to outlaw it.

My daughter came to visit this weekend, and tonight we watched the whole of Small Prophets in one go. What an utterly brilliant series - I laughed and cried more than I've done in a long time. Honestly the best thing I've watched in quite a while. #SmallProphets

NHK's テミスの不確かな法廷 (Themis's Uncertain Court) is really good, highly recommend. About a judge with ASD and ADHD, it's touching, funny, with some very engaging and gripping stories and cases. #テミスの不確かな法廷 #ThemisUncertainCourt
