We're looking for a full-time Director of Communications & Strategic Engagement. You'll develop and implement our comms strategy, and serve as the primary steward of MCBC’s voice and brand identity.
Job Description: Director of Communications & Strategic Engagement
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $80,000–$85,000 annually
Location: Remote, with ability to travel to Marin County for meetings and collaboration

Employee Benefits
We offer a supportive and flexible work environment and a strong benefits package that
includes:
● 100% employer-paid health and dental insurance for full-time employees
● 403(b) retirement plan with employer match after 3 months
● Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), plus 13+ paid holidays, including a winter break
● Alternative transportation incentives, including up to $300/year in bike expenses
● Work from home and cell phone stipends
About the Role:

for the Executive Director. The position supervises two staff members: a Part-Time
Database Coordinator and a Full-Time Events and Engagement Manager. This position
leads MCBC’s efforts to grow our audience, elevate our voice, and align public-facing

While this is a strategic leadership role, it also involves hands-on execution of day-to-day
tasks in a small nonprofit setting. The successful candidate will balance high-level
planning with ownership of details—from drafting e-newsletters to jumping in at events toset up tents or take photos. You’ll need to be equally comfortable developing a messaging
strategy and using Canva or AI tools to create effective visual content.
Key Responsibilities:
● Develop and implement a multi-channel communications strategy aligned with
MCBC’s goals
● Drive audience growth across digital platforms, events, and outreach channels.
● Serve as the primary steward of MCBC’s voice and brand identity
● Lead content creation for newsletters, website, social media, and media relations
● Design basic collateral using AI-based tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT, etc.)
● Pitch in on event logistics and other hands-on efforts when needed
● Supervise the Events and Engagement Manager and Database Coordinator
● Collaborate with the Individual Giving Director on messaging and sponsorship
materials
● Ensure accurate data and campaign tracking is implemented by the Database
Coordinator
● Track and report on audience engagement metrics and refine strategy accordingly
● Represent MCBC publicly and support the Executive Director in communications as

Future of Bridgeway to be Decided on March 29th

Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) @marinbike.org · 28/03/2025
We don't know how the vote will go, but there have already been ~200 written comments (in a city of just 7,500!). We hope that the City Council can see that the road is not working for every today, and that a Better Bridgeway is possible. Keeping things as they are is not the answer.

Their complaints run the gamut. They say that the center lane is needed for emergency response, despite it being blocked by delivery trucks much of the time. They claim that the injury data reported by the consultant is made up (it's not).

Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) @marinbike.org · 28/03/2025
Despite these relatively straightforward suggestions, a number of residents of the city have vocally opposed any changes.

Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) @marinbike.org · 28/03/2025
A traffic study funded by the Bay Trail arrived at a series of recommendations. This involved moving delivery truck to dedicated green zones on the curb, adding bike lanes, and providing several marked crosswalks.

The road is bad for the many pedestrians using it as well. There are not marked crossings for half a mile, a 10 minute walk for an able bodied person. This results in a great deal of dangerous midblock crossings.

Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) @marinbike.org · 28/03/2025
Another reason is the fact that many of the people riding on Bridgeway are tourists riding a bike for the first time in years. While used by some to excuse the crash rate, this is all the more reason to make the road as safe as possible.
170
Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) @marinbike.org · 28/03/2025
Despite being a two-lane road, Bridgeway sees a disproportionate number of injury collisions for its amount of traffic. Part of the reason is that the road has no dedicated delivery spaces, forcing drivers serving the local businesses to illegally park in the center turn lane.

Because of the geography of Marin , there is literally no other surface street (i.e. not US-101) that connects Marin County with the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Because of this, the road sometimes sees daily bicycles in the low thousands, including commuters, tourists, and rec riders.

Bridgeway is currently configured with one lane in each direction with sharrows, a two-way left turn lane, and on-street parking on the land side. There is a wide sidewalk on the seawall, but bicycles are prohibited from riding there.

Breaking: BCDC has once again postponed the hearing on the Richmond-San Rafael from its planned date of April 3rd. A new date has now yet been scheduled. We will provide an update when we have more information.
Caltrans has requested BCDC postpone the Commission’s scheduled public hearing and vote on Caltrans’ Richmond-San Rafael Bridge permit application, which was set for Thursday, April 3, 2025. Caltrans plans to amend its permit application, and BCDC looks forward to considering an amended project that we expect will provide additional potential transportation benefits and maximum feasible public access consistent with that project. See Attachment B for more information.
