Have you noticed how dry springs and summers are becoming more frequent? Do you wonder about the consequences they might have for natural ecosystems? Then have a look at our new paper in @global changebio.bsky.social !

Are tropical forests in the Americas changing as adaptation to ongoing climate change? Yes, they are! Are these changes enough to track their suitable climate? Not quite! Check out our paper in @science.org www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... to see more of what our network has been working on!

Tropical forests in the Americas are changing too slowly to track climate change
Understanding the capacity of forests to adapt to climate change is of pivotal importance for conservation science, yet this is still widely unknown. This knowledge gap is particularly acute in high-b...

These points are so crucial! I’ve seen so many posts about the loss of fieldwork experience based on the new publication, but few have mentioned paths forward. I’d like to add that fieldwork takes a lot of *time* - so we also need long-term funding and longer contracts for people.

The PSECO lab was at #BES2024 this week! We spoke about links between plant traits and soil communities, drought-induced shifts in the effect of microbes on plant-plant interactions, and drought effects on soil biodiversity in agricultural systems. @marigliesch.bsky.social @annacloc.bsky.social
Emma with her poster “Relationships between plant traits and soil properties differ between wetlands with different water level management”Mariana giving her talk “Soil microbes shift plant interactions under drought along a secondary successional gradient”Me giving Anna Clocchiatti’s talk “Drought- and heat-induced changes in the soil biome of managed soils”

#BES2024 coming to the party tonight? Get your onions* ready *people think the bauble on the name badge looks like an onion. It is not an onion. But it is your ticket to the party tonight, 8.30 PINS Social Club. See you there.
Onion with a note next to it that says "Merry Christmas! I have returned. Love, the Party Onion"

Hey hey dear ecologists! If you are around Liverpool for #BES2024 and interested in drought, microbes and plant interactions, come to my talk tomorrow at the Species Interaction section in room 3B - or come find me after to chat about any of these 🙃

It’s out!! We subjected soils from 30 different locations across Europe to extreme events and found that soil fungal and bacterial communities showed consistent responses that could be predicted from their origin! With @knightjar.bsky.social and many collaborators! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Soil microbiomes show consistent and predictable responses to extreme events - Nature
Soils from 30 grasslands across Europe were subjected to 4 contrasting extreme climatic events under drought, flood, freezing and heat conditions, with the results suggesting that soil microbiomes fro...
