Thank you @jtpmedieval.bsky.social for this fantastic book! I loved your approach of integrating historical debates into the narrative. I learned a huge amount, even in areas where I already know a bit (Latin, paleography, and monasticism). Highly recommended!!

Sammy has passed his medical check and is cleared for adoption. I'm keeping him a few more days to teach him some socialization skills. He likes the top of the bookcase.

#catsofbluesky I’m fostering a cat from the local animal shelter. I got him right after he had extensive dental surgery and still had a lingering paw infection. Antibiotics and pain meds twice daily. He’s looking a lot better in just a few days, don’t you think? How it started /how it’s going.

Reminded Gregory of Tours doesn't start his Histories with "a great many things keep happening, some of them good, some of them bad" (as per the Penguin edition), but gets in a grumble about "the decline or rather death of the cultivation of liberal letters" first. #medievalsky (pic Paris BF 17655)
The opening page of Gregory of Tours' Histories in the seventh-century manuscript Paris BnF 17655, complaining about the "decline or rather death" of the cultivation of the liberal arts.

We lost little Amalfi but it was a time to focus on the positives. A fried chicken treat for the street dogs of Thailand 🥰🙏

Hello, BlueSky-verse! We're really happy to be here, and to be carrying on the conversation from our previous Twitter account (@medievalfrench). But who exactly is 'we'? Well, time for a good, old-fashioned welcome thread ...

Love having an entire lesson in a language textbook built around making and receiving phone calls from friends, something my 18-20 yr-old students are about as likely to do in China as they are to prepare a commercial airliner for takeoff.

Signal boost. @niallharbison.bsky.social does fantastic work with street dogs in Thailand and his posts are always life-affirming. It would be great to see him on this platform.

Since some of you were kind enough to follow me despite my diffidence (thank you!), I'll post the occasional photo. This little figurine, 19,000 years old, is at the French National Museum of Prehistory.

Hi I'm new. I'm mostly working on 14th-15th century French humanists writing in Latin, like Gerson, Clémanges, and d'Ailly. I don't expect to post much, but I look forward to reading your conversations. Here's my cat, Lizzie.
Lizzie, double-boxed.
