Wonderful. Can you tell me about how long it takes you to carve and then to sand it?

Maria Patterson (dr.dowhittle) @maria.handtoheartwood.com · 20/05/2025

New gnome 🍄 Usually I make them from small practice sticks, but this guy is carved from a 1.5" block. On to the paint table next. #woodcarving #whittling #craft #gnome #maker

Starting on a new wood spirit in cottonwood bark. Been a long time since I carved a face (besides Santa 😅). Progress pics. #woodcarving #woodart #handmade #art #craft

My little man gnome. Will be my go-to gnome design for this year I think. At least until I get a bit better. 😅 To the paint table next. #woodcarving #whittling #gnome #crafts #handmade #carving

A practice stick with a ~5 step simple Santa face and a variety of faces on the other side - for reference to mix and match features. Working on materials for teaching demos. 😁 #woodcarving #whittling #makersmARTch #art #marchmeetthemaker

Throwback for my new Bluesky carver friends - wood spirit in cottonwood bark. His name is Hugo, and he went home with a kind art lover who had a dog named Hugo also. A re-carve over an earlier wood spirit that I was never happy with. Turned out much better, I think. 😅 #woodcarving #art #woodwork

Picture grid of woodcarvings. Gandalf sculpture, little monster whittle, gnomes with Christmas tree hats, a cartoonish polar bear in a hat and scarf, and carved Santas in various stages.
