An image of Saturn on the black background of space. Image is labeled Saturn, Webb Infrared Light, November 29, 2024. Saturn has horizontal bands, with bands at the north and south poles appearing darker orange and lightening to tan as they approach the equator. The north and south poles glow a greenish-grey. The rings appear in an icy neon white. White dots represent several of Saturn’s moons

120
Emmanuel Marcq @marcqplanets.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

Emmanuel Marcq @marcqplanets.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

Finding the smallest value of c for which noticeable increases of new records can be distinguished from the background level (c=0) would be an interesting result also.

OK, I was confused by the fact that Libreville is indeed its own symmetric in space! Apart from local reasons detailed here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Librevi..., the main symmetry breaker here is the ITCZ itself, due to the asymmetry in continent vs. ocean distribution. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intertr...

Well, September 21st is much warmer than March 21st here in Paris, so the seasonal lag is indeed breaking the symmetry.
100
Emmanuel Marcq @marcqplanets.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Actually, what should matter here is the seasonal lag of the ITCZ.
110
Emmanuel Marcq @marcqplanets.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Did you take into account the seasonal lag? Atmospheric radiative cooling timescale is about 6 weeks, and proximity to ocean makes the seasonal lag larger than that value.

Venus isn’t just our nearest planetary neighbor. It’s one of the best tests we have for how rocky worlds diverge. If we want to understand habitability, climate evolution, and Earth-size exoplanets, we need the full Venus story.

This is haunting. More from yesterday's solar eclipse viewed by the Artemis II crew. The Sun's corona is faintly visible emerging from behind the Moon. And, at lower left, Venus.
A ghostly view of the Sun's corona seen from behind the Moon, portions of which are faintly visible from Earthshine (our planet is off screen to the left). At lower left, the bright point of light is Venus.

Moreover, the scale height will be smaller and the atmosphere will not extend as far to space, so that the rocket will exit the dense atmosphere faster than on Earth. (2/2)

Emmanuel Marcq @marcqplanets.bsky.social · 26/03/2026
About the atmospheric issue, that's only true if you keep the atmospheric mass constant. For a constant composition, surface pressure and temperature (e.g. air, 1 bar and 300 K), the atmospheric density will be the same as Earth's. (1/2)
