🎶 The Season 1 finale of Acoustic World is here! 👶🏻 A lullaby sung to a baby, or a sentence whispered in the dark. We call one music and the other language. But how different are they, really? In this final episode, I speak with @patrickesavage.bsky.social about their deep connections.

🎤 Assistant Professor Michelle Spierings of Leiden University is ready to help us understand "the hidden rules of sound," uncovering how the brain organizes acoustic signals into structures before meaning and communication even begin. Because the World has always spoken, we just need to listen.

🐋 What happens when you live where there's no light at all? Professor Natacha Aguilar de Soto of @megamargroup.bsky.social takes us into the deep ocean to explore how deep-diving cetaceans use echolocation to navigate, hunt, and survive, and how we are interfering with these remarkable adaptations.

🗣️ From speech and song to a sudden shout, the human voice carries words, emotion, and identity. But what biological design makes it all possible? 🎤 Professor @tecumsehfitch.bsky.social explores the “architecture of sound,” revealing how vocal systems across species shape the sounds they produce.

🌿 Ever noticed that ecosystems are full of sounds? What if those sounds could help us count species, without even being there? 🎤 Assistant Prof. Jeppe Rasmussen (@biologen.bsky.social), University of Copenhagen, explores passive acoustic monitoring and how AI lets us “listen” to entire ecosystems.
