Here at Trinity, we’re kicking off #BannedBooksWeek with a 1928 copy of Ulysses by James Joyce. This Shakespeare & Co. edition features a list of all print runs since its first publication in 1922, and details the number of copies seized and burned by authorities. 📚
1928 edition of Ulysses by James Joyce, pictured alongside other formerly banned books, including Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure, A Clockwork Orange, The Satanic Verses, Naked Lunch, and Lady Chatterley’s Lover.A list of the first 10 print runs of Ulysses by James Joyce, which states that 500 copies of the second printing were burned, and 499 copies of the third printing were seized by Customs Authorities.
