marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 30/03/2026Dont feel like its your fault! ive ./gradlew run'd almost every compose desktop repo on github and they all have this. its something that i think jetbrains should look into instead than devs shipping desktop apps - seems like the most evident way to easily remove cruft 110
marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 30/03/2026i should probably test this on android. i bet its probably the best bsky app for android 010
marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 30/03/2026KMP devs please hear my cry and dont just say "this isnt a priority because all apps are huge in 2026 anyways" on the kotlin slack please 000
marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 30/03/2026also, the binaries for any compose desktop app is going to be 90+ mb, no matter what you do. they'll have to bundle in a renderer, a jvm, etc. all of these are really non-negotiable. but theres a 36mb jar file in every compose app for just....icons? 200
marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 30/03/2026still interesting to see though. ive become a bit less interested in compose desktop as i still see a lot of performance hits whenever i test on lower systems, which is a shame, because i think jetpack compose is declarative UI done right, and kotlin is such a good language 100
marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 30/03/2026found my bsky password for this. really silky smooth after 5 seconds of initial loading (jvm warmup?). somehow video playback works despite not using libvlcj, which i thought was impossible but im not a java person so i wouldnt know. this is so interesting and cool 331

marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 08/03/2026the new Firefox design is such a tragedy because I remember how old firefox was exceptionally designed. even down to the dev tools, places where most people literally do not care about color and gradients, you can tell that someone on the team DID care 110

marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 14/02/2026on the previous UI i tried to make the toolbar a bit more colorful with some inspiration from this dribbble concept, but it never felt "right”, and made it stick out from every other macOS app in ways that I didn’t want to 000
marceloexc @marceloexc.com · 14/02/2026i actually like the way toolbars look like in macOS 26. the big-sur era made everything too monochrome. i can actually put some color with a .glass or a .borderedProminent buttonStyle with these 110
