If this comic diary sticks around for more than a year, you’ll eventually notice that I become full of self-pity every time summer comes to an end. I find it hard to accept that we’re in for half a year of cold and wet weather. I hate being cold. I’m also not ... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-11

I tried blogging regularly for years and years. This comic diary somehow became the best personal blog I ever had without me noticing. This would even be a neat little blog entry without the comic, imho.

I love wearing my Apple Watch. Not only does it tell me that I apparently lost the ability to stay in Zone 2 while running, it also tracks everything else, lets me quickly set timers, pause my podcast without fishing my iPhone out of my pocket, and gives me gl... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-10

What am I in this case? Seems like you have forgotten about what you're replying to. A post of me having fun building a frontend for the iPhone Duo.

I tend to get bored easily. Not with life in general. I have more than enough interests to fill my time with things I enjoy. But each particular interest tends not to hold me for very long. I've described myself before as someone with circular hobbies. They come, they go, they come back…

Even talking about my woes of if and how to see myself as an artist makes me feel a bit like a fraud. Imposter syndrome needs to be suppressed. When I allow myself to feel and behave like an artist, though, I get these little glimpses of something that somehow... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-07

I’m currently figuring out how to survive winter without getting depressed, and finding a place to draw where I won’t freeze my butt off is one part of my preparations. I wanted to try sketching people and artwork at the Hamburger Kunsthalle and somehow ended... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-06

I loved Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War, so when my friend Matti told me she had a new book out that follows the same general principle, just with a different civilization-ending weapon, I ordered it on the spot. It was another great read. Biological War is sligh... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-05

Today I learned that you can disable iPhone Duo's default of hiding top edge navigation bars on scroll. I understand why it happens but sometimes it's necessary to keep important context in view.

I like this comic, even though I didn’t when I made it. It’s pure melancholy, and the whole day felt exactly like this. On a related note, I always struggle with the end of summer and the beginning of the worst seasons. I will persevere, but it’s not going to... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-04

Something about the current season of Ted Lasso feels off. I guess they’re trying to make the characters feel more nuanced, but I quite liked where everyone had ended up by the end of the last season. It almost feels like there wasn’t much reason to pull them ... marcel.io/dailies/2026-09-02

🙏 I'll drop the giant update when the Duo launches. It'll bring huge changes to the day detail view that now tracks wake up time, workouts, meetings, automatic location, etc. It's a journal that writes itself.

It's a huge update to my journaling app Zeitgeist. I've been using it for more than 400 days and it's the best way to quickly capture what's happening, imho.

I've heard a couple of indie devs spend an hour on their podcast complaining about all the work they have to do to make their apps work on iPhone Duo. Not sure what their problem is. This is so much fun.

I think it’s important to show an interest in your children’s hobbies. Gigabyte has recently developed a fascination with large insects, and I cherish the quality time we spend together watching them. marcel.io/dailies/2026-08-31

And I'm sure it's just 15 years of training but I feel VERY disoriented using the Duo in the simulator. Can't wait to figure this out with a real device but there's a big chance that a classic slab phone will always feel more calm to me.

It might be silly but… this seriously hampered my hype around the Duo and its decision to put the interactive elements to one side. This just looks a bit broken. Not liquid-glass-y (which I like a lot nowadays) at all.
