commision @tribunato.bsky.social who always commisions me some of my best work. "Toads are specifically born out of deprivation and unfulfilled material needs, this particular sin has fused with person who created it to become a sort of monstrous humanoid." for the campaign they are running.

"The Archlich" For Jetpack7's 'Legendary Undead' I always wanted to paint a proper lich. I think I did liches justice with this one.

Illustration of a lich encased in ice, billowing wizard robes frozen in time. He stands upright, as if floating permanently within his icy sarcophagus. Beneath him, a frozen lake stretches towards the viewer. From within the depths we see skulls floating beneath the thick layer of ice, trapped forever. The image is painted in deep blues and grayish cyans, attributing a cold atmosphere.

Last one for Secrets of Strixhaven! I'm particularly fond of this one. I crafted a little paper wing to use as reference for the subsurface scattering seen here. "Owlin Historian" AD: Sam Padilla & Ovidio Cartagena

Painting of a white owlin (chonky owl person) wearing a Lorehold outfit (red leather with golden motifs resembling topographical markings, which in turn makes it look like organic-looking linework, white cloth, her outfit dotted with pockets etc), flying over a ruined town, carrying an open scroll and archiving upon it magic data from the surroundings, in the form of glowing symbols. The Owlin looks happy. Warm magic glow shines from within the scroll.

Question for any traditional artists following me, how do you store your drawings/paintings? I’m looking around me and theres a critical mass of piles os paper that I should start organizing.

If you’re not happy it sure is a good idea to at least step away for a bit, from what I see from you, you’d still be a very creative individual, but maybe it doesn’t has to be art.

Marcel Budde @marbudde.bsky.social · 19/02/2026

I also feel frustraded when I hear people have a passion for doing art, I don’t feel like I’m in love with it, to me doing art is more akin to breathing or doing exercises, it’s something I have to do to survive but I’m not enjoying it necessarily.

Marcel Budde @marbudde.bsky.social · 19/02/2026

I can identify with some of your struggles. I’m in no position to say if someone should quit or not, but the times I feel like it, is usually when I’m comparing myself to my “idols“, people I look up to are machines that make art non stop apparently and I couldn’t be much different.

What are you using to make these? I’m assuming pencils and watercolor? Its also insane to me that your traditional work is so similar to digital, I wish I had your skills for detail.

And finally "Subterfuge", the fourth card I did for the Lorwyn Eclipsed set!

A traditional illustration featuring a Lorwyn elemental. Lorwyn elementals are hybrids made up of all kinds of different animals and shapes, in this case the head of a dolphin, forearms of an iguana, body of a dolphin, body and wings of a dragonfly, body and wings of a bird and the tail of a dolphin. We see the creature partially under and partially out of the water as it breaches the surface.
