Category of one? Motorway service areas accessible on the National Cycle Network. This perhaps unique scenario is due to South Mimms services predating the concept of motorways altogether. The junction’s real name is Bignalls Corner, where the Barnet Bypass (1930s) crossed the contemporary A6.

Deliberately provocative? Maybe not. Just motor normativity. Anything that reclaims our streets as social and communal spaces has to be couched in words like “closure” or “disruption”. Even worse when collisions occur and the last sentence of the story is normally always about delays.
