Pretty frustrated this evening. The newest version that has Android Auto and a lot of new features/fixes has been waiting in review with Google for 4 days. Not sure what's causing it to take so long and we're so excited to get the newest version out to you all. Refreshing the page every few minutes.

Quick update to anyone wondering where things are at for Android. Google finally approved our open beta track with an old version. We've started the process twice now to get a newer version reviewed and found bugs before it was approved so we pulled the release before it could go out.

Small update: First, we're still waiting on Google to finish its review of our Android open beta test which has been holding us back since September 13th. Once it's approved we'll be able to update the app for anyone on iOS or Android to fix a number of known bugs and share new features.

We currently have one big thing holding us up: we're waiting for Google to review our open beta submission so that we can move from an invite model to just freely distributing a link to join. Once that submission is in, we can't push out any more updates without restarting the submission.

Sunday is when we rebuild our database and incorporate any new data and between the new transit features we've been building and this database work everything seized up. That said, a new beefier server is on the way and will hopefully give us a lot more room to build. Thanks for sticking with us!

We've managed to do (what we think) is a pretty good job of chopping the parts of that phrase up so that the common parts like "Turn right in 400 meters onto" meshes well with the road name. It's about 90-95% the quality of where it was when it was generated all together.

We were very happy with the improvements to the quality of voice navigation prompts, however, they were extremely taxing to generate. Every direction was completely unique which means the whole phrase "Turn right in 400m at Canada Road" was made and could only ever be used for that specific prompt

Reroutes were also not acknowledging when people were driving and just assumed a stagnant starting point rather than the reality that when it reroutes you've usually missed an exit or chosen to pass it and won't be doing a U turn in the middle of the road.

Beyond that, we put a bunch of work into fixing how the system reroutes people when users go off the chosen route. It had be frustratingly sticky and REALLY wanted you to go what it thought was the fastest way.

Through all this work we discovered our residential address listings are quite thin which means a lot of residential address lookups will be falling back on TomTom for search. We've kept it around as a failsafe for exactly this reason.

This one should make sure that searches are properly finding what you're looking for and accurately showing the results in the correct order. There's a bit more to it under the hood but with but the hope is search should just work as you would expect.

Build 30 (iOS) and Release 17 (Android) are out for testing. Make sure to update your app so you can get the newest features. TL;DR: - Maps, routing, search, map icons, etc... have been rebuild in house. TomTom is only used for traffic and as a fallback. - Two new much more realistic voices added

A few more pieces of good news: our new mapping will allow for much better bike routing which is something a number of you wrote us about. We should now be able to reliably create bike navigations that use paths instead of only roads. Also, dark mode is coming!

For traffic we will still need to rely on TomTom but this data will be a one-way-street. We will get our data from them but won't be sending them anything back from our users.

It also means that we control the maps and points of interest like a restaurant or grocery store so when you write in with something that's missing our outdated we can actually act on it right away.
