Don‘t forget that Newsom participated in these “sweeps” to wipe out places where the homeless felt a modicum of safety & stability. People’s medical devices, IDs, birth records, and so much more have been tossed away like trash, leaving the homeless even further away from jobs, homes, & schools.

Someone posted this same screenshot but without alt text so I couldn’t repost it. But this is so true. And so awful. And when you’re watching your child fight for their life, whether it’s a one-night visit or a years-long battle, you shouldn’t have to be worrying about how to pay for it, too.

Just got off the phone with my college roommate.

His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in January.

He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having.

7 months later:
Savings: wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren't their problem.

He told me he's not the same person anymore.

Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn't go away.

They did everything right. Two incomes. No debt.
Responsible their whole lives.

One diagnosis undid all of it in 7 months.

And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting a $30 million bonus this quarter.

I don't know how people defend this system with a straight face.

I really don't.

I want to note here that Ireland is tiny & adorable. Literally drove from one side of the country AND BACK, making several stops for sightseeing along the way, in about 12 hours In the US, it can take much longer to get to a place you can have an abortion, then still have to wait & pay for your stay

I have 3 kinds of basil, mint, & lavender, 2 kinds of sage, thyme, & eggplant, 5 types of pepper & tomato, 4 kinds of rose, plus oregano, chamomile, rosemary, dill, & lilac. With the exception of the rosemary, I planted & am keeping them all alive. I also once killed a bowl of succulents in <1 month

My sister died in a car accident due to faulty parts. The seatbelt, door lock, & airbags all failed. If any ONE had held, she’d‘ve walked away w cuts & bruises. Instead, her head was between the door & the rest of the vehicle when it landed #LikeARock driver’s side down. The cheapest part? $3.00

My passport needs to be renewed toward the end of the year next year. It’s too early to get it renewed now and the felon in office is putting his picture inside them soon for the 250th anniversary. I fell down my basement stairs and landed on my head a few days ago. I met one of my neighbors afterwards who drove me to the ER, sat w me for 5 hours, and drove me back home then made sure I made it up the stairs (all my entrances have stairs). I‘m very glad to have met my super sweet neighbor.

Infuriating, but expected. I suspect the mail-in ballots had significantly higher “yes” votes in part bc they were mailed before Thiel’s big push w mailers. As to the 2024 election being close, so was this. It’s a difference of around 80k votes & fewer people voted on this than the election.

Leaving is always the most dangerous time. This man in Louisiana shot his wife, who’d asked for divorce, and killed his own children, aged 3-11. One was found dead on the roof. A 13-yr old jumped off the roof and survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Ask us again why we don’t leave, mf’ers.🤬

This is amazing. I keep seeing stories like this over and over. For those of us who’ve already lost loved ones to cancer, it’s awful that these miracles weren’t available for them, but I think most of us are incredibly grateful that others may be spared & their loved ones won’t have to grieve.

My knees are bi-curious. Specifically, they have both become VERY interested in exploring new ways to bend, and seem to have been inspired by far too many long-legged birds. At some point around the time I turned 40, my body just became entirely ridiculous.

I do not have a green thumb. At all. But the growing conditions are so good here that my outdoor plants are THRIVING! I have blooms all over one rose bush and buds on all 4 of them. My lavender, thyme, rosemary, parsley, basil, and oregano are all doing well. I‘m just so pleased! 😊
