Am I? Egypt isn’t exactly a civilization known for genocidal intent nor ethnic cleansing. Not to mention that, as an immigrant from Mesopotamia, Abraham and his people don’t really qualify as “indigenous” in Canaan.

Fitting for the “there’s some authority to which we allow to manage this part of their lands but not this nor that, and to whom we’re don’t recognize as a State”, don’t you think? Why is it that Palestine must give 100% in advance and Israel can just say “we’ll be nice with you if you comply”?

And that’s why I correct: Ceuta is not “colonial” at all. The city inhabitants have exactly the same nationality, rights, and duties as (let’s say) people from downtown Madrid. And it’s been so for centuries.

Ceuta is Spain, so they did (and many of them, including hundreds of children without accompanying adults, still do) step on Spanish soil. Not every country is only on one continent.

Not really, it just happened that the other countries setting up colonies first also still had laws forbidding new synagogues. The Dutch had expelled their Jewish population early, but later on allowed them back.

Considering that they bought a house built right on front of a basilica under construction, knowing that it was in the land destined for the church, I don’t know what did they expect. When they started building there was absolutely nothing else there.

Well, there was even more hunger in the cities because in the countryside you could always have a little grove and maybe a pig or cow. However, cities had a bit better paid jobs and loads of anonymity so they were a bit more convenient refuge for those who had lost the war.

Should they? Are you willing to be executed by mistake for a crime you didn’t commit? Or to get your hand cut for a thievery you didn’t do? Because that’s also a part of having death penalty and legal mutilation in the books…

That depends on the country. In Spain, for example, permanent residency (including a work permit) is automatic after 5 years, independently of work or marriage. And someone from the Philippines or Hispanic America can get it in just 1,5

The other way around. The Count of Flanders became King of Spain, and those who rebelled against it lost. True enough, he went native and his son faced a more successful rebellion in Flanders but still Spain was [ruled by a] Belgian and not the other way around 😜

Well, the previous regime was installed with a coup sponsored by the US and UK, and it wasn’t exactly puppies and candies. Why should the current one have any love for the countries who enslaved, brutalized, and robbed them for decades? Did the USA ever try to rein in the Shah or made amends?

Vox (far right) in Spain, for example, never had problems to get several million euros “loans” from Hungarian banks every year with no hurries at all to get the money back and very friendly relations with the Hungarian government. Misteriously.

That’s how all parliaments began. Eventually members found themselves banding together with others with similar goals, and formal parties appeared sooner or later. USA has one of the weakest political parties system, and that’s how you got where you are.

That’s the start of their “near” hegemonic era. No empire in the region has been free of the Persians breathing down their necks since then, and even the Mughals in India called themselves Viceroys of Persia.

They’ve been near hegemonic (or outright hegemonic) in the region for about 24 centuries or so, perhaps we should take that into account too.
