🚨Not one, but two Magnapinna squid! 🚨 the #doldrums team observed 2 elusive Magnapinna sp., commonly known as bigfin squid, at approximately 4,300 m (about 2.7 miles). Magnapinna is the deepest-dwelling squid. Sightings of these animals are extremely rare — seeing two in one dive is extra exciting!

Success! A brand new sign at Bald Hill Beach that I had a hand in! After the frustration of watching bad behaviour, I wrote to the local council expressing my concerns. At the same time, and unknown to me, a birder friend did the same thing. Council listened! Photos on the sign by Paul Taylor.

🪄PRESTO!🪄 Skeletals of several Prestosuchus specimens or well... "Prestosuchus", as there are definitely multiple taxa in here distinct from the holotype, its a bit of a brazilian loricatan waste-basket... (some really large!) one-by-one down on replies!

Also had to do some work on a few 'croc' taxa for some features of the skull. The last one is a fictional marine raptor related to real-life ospreys.

Brachiosuchus skeletal it was a giant, long-snouted Dyrosaurid with the largest known arms of any crocodylomorph, likely serving for underwater manouverability, it almost looks like a spec-evo creature!

The crests are a combination of Spinosaurus and Ceratosaurus. The outline was done using Varanus and Prognathodon as bases. For the anatomical details I used snakes such as Wonambi and Najash.

Restoration and rigorous skull of Tameryraptor markgrafi.
The skull bones of Tameryraptor are heavily sculptured. The maxilla is covered by sharp ridges on its outer surface and bears rather symmetrical teeth. The nasal bones have a single process shaped like a small horn on top and numerous bumps. As in other carcharodontosaurids, the skull probably was rather round, tall and somewhat narrow, with a "chin" at the jaw tip. It's here tentatively restored after Acrocanthosaurus sp., Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, Tyrannotitan chubutensis and MPCA-Pv 803 (?Taurovenator violantei).

There was a reason for the skulls I was posting. This is a concept skull for a creature I'm working on.
Side views of a dragon-like skull with several roundish crests on its snout.
The tip of the jaws have large caniniform teeth for grasping and tearing.
The palate bears several tooth rows, like snakes, that help to process prey.

manubl.bsky.social @manubl.bsky.social · 06/05/2026
I lied, there's no Spinosaurus. This is Prionosuchus plummeri, a large archegosaurid from Brazil. With a skull of ~565 mm, the holotype is already quite big.

Again I need to remind you that THE KRAKEN IS NOT A GIANT SQUID. We should stop using the word 'kraken' when talking about cephalopods. The kraken is an ISLAND MONSTER, with antennae or spines. It was connected to giant squid stories, as a speculation, by Pontoppidan in the 1750s but... cont
