Internet consensus is yes, it’s a lichen. Perhaps with a parasite. Probably not Christmas tree lichen but it looks similar.

The bad part isn’t that they added another (3 total?) Auntie Anne’s to Penn station… But rather that the new one is right by the escalator so the aroma travels up with you as you head up to the ground level. 😯

I talk in my book about how soaps themselves do not kill but rather emulsify and help us remove bacteria. That means even soaps can become lunch for critters. With that said we need to be careful about overuse of antibacterial agents! www.health.com/hand-soap-re...

From 2022 to spring 2025, American PhD-granting universities posted an average of 289 openings in departments of chemistry and biochemistry. Starting in the fall of 2025, that number fell to 185 openings.

Day 16. Today’s #SciArtSeptember shape prompt, scallop, made me think of scalloped leaves. Feeling autumn in the air, I decided to make four prints about leaf colour chemistry using bur oak leaves. 🧪 Every autumn we marvel at the beautiful change in the colour of leaves of our deciduous trees. 🧵
My 11” x 14” print with four bur oak leaves in green, yellow, orange and red overprinted with linocut molecules as described in slate grey. This one has leaf gel prints, is signed Ele Willoughby and dated 2026.

I think a lot about this time in undergrad when there was a wooden statue constructed on our campus by another school, and a bunch of guys in my year decided to destroy it, only to later learn that it was part of an intercollegiate effort to build connections across universities.
