This is my Mum's recipe but it's pretty flexible. I like it spicy so I add a bit more mustard and turmeric. Boil the onions in water till they're soft then add the vinegar with the other ingredients. Keep tasting to get the sweet/spice balance to your taste. Enjoy!
1 1\2 lbs onions
1 medium cauliflower 1 1/2 lbs
3/4 marrow 1 1/4 lbs
1/2 cucumber
1 - 1 1/2 lbs sugar
1/4 oz Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
3/4 oz Mustard - 1 Dessert spoon
1 1/4 pts vinegar
1 1/2 pts water
Corn flour

The Northumberland coast in March this year. Looking across the bay to Beadnell Lime Kilns.
Coastal view looking across a bay. Rocks and sand in the foreground, then a calm sea with gentle waves lapping the shore. The sea reflects the blue sky with distant grey clouds. Across the bay golden dunes, houses and stonebuilt structures can be seen on the horizon.

Tennyson's poem The Kraken

Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides: above him swell
Huge sponges of millenial growth and height
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There he hath lain for ages and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

This jade plant is a family heirloom. My father brought home a piece from a plant in the offices where he worked. He stuck it in a pot, and when I left home, I took a piece with me. Much like Dr Who it's been through a few regenerations from cuttings, but it's at least 50 years old.

Gun control? When?
England is a cup of tea.
France a wheel of ripened brie.
Greece, a short squat olive tree.
America is a gun.

Brazil is football on the sand.
Argentina, Maradona's hand.
Germany, and oompah band.
America is a gun.

Holland is a wooden shoe.
Hungary, a goulash stew.
Australia, a kangaroo.
America is a gun.

Japan is a thermal spring,
Scotland is a Highland fling.
Oh, better to be anything
than America as a gun.

"Look not on his picture, but his book" Ben Jonson for #ShakespeareSunday, Theme Books and Libraries
The cover of a copy of the Alexander text of the Complete Works of Shakespeare, white with a blue and green version of an image of Shakespeare's face.Ben Jonson's lines 'To the Reader', written for the First Folio edition of Shakespeare's plays (1623)

This figure, that thou here seest put
It was for gentle Shakespeare cut;
Wherein the Graver had a strife
with nature, to out-doo the life:
O, could he but have drawne his wit
As well in brasse as he hath hit
His face, the Print would then surpasse
All that was ever writ in brasse.
But, since he cannot, Reader, look
Not on his picture, but his Book.
