After a 2 year hiatus, I'm making an effort to get back to astrophotography. I am using N.I.N.A for the first time tonight, just testing it out under the full moon (target - M15). It's a steep learning curve but seems really good so far (I've come from using APT). #Astrophotography

It's possible to see meteors on any night, even outside of major meteor shower periods, you just have to be lucky ! This morning the Budle Bay Meteor Cam logged 9 meteors between 00:25 and 02:45. 💫 You can view the LIVE Meteor Cams here... www.youtube.com/@Northumberl... #Meteors #Astronomy

Elon Musk keeps insisting his thousands of satellite's won't be visible or affect our view of the night sky. Well, that's bullshit ! I've given up timelapse photography at night because all of his space junk ruins it. Last night I clicked onto the livestreams & saw this. #Dontbelievethehype

Concentrations of dangerous pollutants from rocket launches and satellite reentries in Earth's upper atmosphere might reach treacherous tipping points if millions of orbiting data centers get launched in the next decade, experts say. #space #sustainability #climate www.space.com/space-explor...

Did my first 'all-sky' style livestream last night for meteors. I consider it a success, 31 meteors seen despite the clouds and bright moonlight ! You can see it here + there's links in the description to take you to some of the meteors too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEtT... Same again tonight.🤞💫

Been thinking about livestreaming an 'all-sky' style camera, particularly during meteor showers. Last night I decided to give it a go. Despite the strong moonlight and fairly solid cloud, it still captured at least 7 meteors through the odd gaps. 💫 #MeteorShower #Perseids

Amber LED street lights could save millions of insects. New research shows 1800K amber LEDs cut insect attraction by ~40% compared to standard white LEDs, emitting almost no blue light. The study tracked 71,000 bugs across 6 German railway stations. #LightPollution #Insects #Wildlife #DarkSkies

Hundreds of bright streaks cross the sky in different directions, as if scratching the background natural sky behind it. The bottom of the image is occupied by the dark silhouette of a mountainous desert landscape. Atop the mountain at the centre, is a small, distant metallic dome and yellow-orange lasers shine behind it.

Do one thing this weekend to help reduce light pollution - check your security lights and angle them correctly downwards to prevent upward light spill, no one is attacking you from space, also check they are not set to sensitive to disturb nightlife animals. #LightPollution #DarkSky #SaveTheNight

A. NOAA Geomagnetic Activity Observation and Forecast

The greatest observed 3 hr Kp over the past 24 hours was 3 (below NOAA
Scale levels).
The greatest expected 3 hr Kp for Mar 31-Apr 02 2026 is 5.67 (NOAA Scale
G2).

NOAA Kp index breakdown Mar 31-Apr 02 2026

             Mar 31 Apr 01 Apr 02
00-03UT 3.67 5.00 (G1) 2.67
03-06UT 3.00 4.67 (G1) 2.67
06-09UT 2.67 4.33 2.00
09-12UT 2.00 4.00 1.67
12-15UT 4.67 (G1) 3.00 1.67
15-18UT 5.67 (G2) 2.67 1.33
18-21UT 5.67 (G2) 2.00 1.67
21-00UT 5.00 (G1) 2.33 1.67

Rationale: Enhancements are likely to reach G2 (Moderate) levels midday
to late on 31 Mar, with a chance for G3 (Strong) storm levels due to
possible CME effects from the 30 Mar X1.4 major flare event. Active to
G1 (Minor) levels are then expected into 01 Apr due to continued CH HSS
and CME effects.

B. NOAA Solar Radiation Activity Observation and Forecast

Solar radiation, as observed by NOAA GOES-18 over the past 24 hours, was
below S-scale storm level thresholds.

Solar Radiation Storm Forecast for Mar 31-Apr 02 2026

              Mar 31 Apr 01 Apr 02
S1 or greater 50% 50% 25%

Rationale: The greater than 10 MeV proton flux is likely to exceed event
levels (S1/Minor) on 31 Mar through 02 Apr.

C. NOAA Radio Blackout Activity and Forecast

Radio blackouts reaching the R3 levels were observed over the past 24
hours. The largest was at Mar 30 2026 0319 UTC.

Radio Blackout Forecast for Mar 31-Apr 02 2026

              Mar 31 Apr 01 Apr 02
R1-R2 55% 55% 55%
R3 or greater 10% 10% 10%

Rationale: Solar activity is expected to be low with M-class flares
(R1-R2/Minor-Moderate) likely through 02 Apr and a slight chance of
X-class flares (R3/Strong) through 02 Apr.

21-00UT 2.67 4.00 4.67 (G1)

Rationale: G1-G2 (Minor-Moderate) geomagnetic storms are expected over
19-20 Mar due to a CME arrival from 16 Mar with a potential solar sector
boundary crossing.

B. NOAA Solar Radiation Activity Observation and Forecast

Solar radiation, as observed by NOAA GOES-18 over the past 24 hours, was

Rationale: There is a slight chance for S1 (Minor) or greater solar
radiation storms on 19-20 Mar due to the potential for accelerated
particles ahead of the CME shock.

C. NOAA Radio Blackout Activity and Forecast

Radio blackouts reaching the R1 levels were observed over the past 24

Rationale: There is a chance for R1-R2 (Minor-Moderate) radio blackouts,
with a slight chance for R3 (Strong) events, through 20 Mar, due
predominantly to the flaring potential of Region 4392.

While climate collapse or war seem to be the greatest problems of our time, the loss of darkness is a subtle yet consequential issue. By losing our access to the starry skies, we are losing a piece of Us that has been with us since forever.
