We had a mini market in our neighborhood that just closed down after like 50 years in business, and yes I still think about it weekly.

I mean, probably in the best interest of the AI companies to not allow individual token caps because one user accidentally exploding usage costs is extra revenue to recap some of the insane capital expenses the data center buildout and model training costs.

Yeah, it's less the politician literally changes their stance after they receive money so much as the money pours in to help a true believer get elected on behalf of a special interest.

Yeah, kinda hard to separate remote/hybrid work normalization from 'things cost too much/no third spaces/everyone's a homebody now'

Not that it solves the mega-corporation issue, but I went Quantum for high speed internet (lifetime $50 contract) and Google Fi for mobile data. About $85 per month total for the two and very much meets my needs.

If this were a politically literate country, the Republican party would be completely unviable in federal, state, and local elections.

Part of the hype is just how insane the capital expense and debt financing is to build these models. The revenue they'll need to make to recoup it implies the most profitable technology in the history of the world by an order of magnitude.

I always credited Eilish as just being so idiosyncratic with her style (both musically, but also just overall) that she really stood out from the crowd. Like if you were designing a pop singer in 2018, you would do none of the things she did, but it's also what made her unique.

Yuuup. The GOP should've been in the wilderness for a generation after G.W. Bush, but they went all in on scorched earth obstructionism and were rewarded with full control of the government and the ability to stack the supreme court in their favor.

Yeah, they're deservedly getting a beat down for the next election or two, but they're also really good at stirring up anger at the conditions they themselves create and redirecting at their opponents when they hold power.

Yeah, all that promo spend for an attempt to relaunch a photo sharing app that had its lunch eaten by Facebook more than 20 years ago, in the country's 16th largest metro area. I love this city, but headscratching to say the least.

There is no way they had this in mind when they threw him a financial lifeline in the early 90s after his casinos went bust. Even until the mid 2010s, it was unimaginable.
