🚨 EDSOURCE GUILD IS ON STRIKE! 🚨 Today—Thursday, May 14—EdSource Guild is on a one-day work stoppage due to the unilateral changes to our insurance and the lack of progress on key contract issues. PLEASE DO NOT CROSS OUR PICKET LINE AND VISIT @edsource.org TODAY! actionnetwork.org/petitions/te...
EDSOURCE GUILD IS ON STRIKE TODAY, MAY 14, 2026. For 16 months, we have worked for a contract. Now, management has unilaterally changed health benefits without negotiation.WHY WE'RE STRIKING TODAY

"A fair contract for journalists is how we ensure the quality and sustainability of the reporting our communities count on. We care deeply about this work and the gravity of this action is meant to reflect that. We sincerely hope that management chooses to take our right to bargain and the content of our proposals seriously moving forward." -Thomas Peele, EdSource investigative reporter and EdSource Guild co-chair

We're holding a rally this Wednesday, April 15, at noon Pacific to support our contract campaign! You can register to attend or watch on Instagram Live, Twitch, and other streaming platforms. We need your help to get a fair contract and we can't wait to see you there!
There aren't enough characters available to put the full press release here, but we'll put a link in a reply.

In our negotiations with @edsource.org they're proposing that CEO Deborah Clark unilaterally decide all grievances. In other words, management is repeatedly proposing that management will solely determine what happens if management violates the contract. We're demanding a real, neutral process.

It’s been 421 days since the EdSource Guild unionized, and we still don’t have a contract. Starting tomorrow, Guild members will share, in their own words, why reaching an agreement on a contract soon is so important. Please share our stories with your networks!

💕 Roses are red, violets are blue, give workers the raises and the leave they need, too! 💕 Our negotiations with @edsource.org are slow and we still don't have equitable pay, work-life balance, or a fair contract. We're sending this Valentine's Day card to our bosses, please sign it to support us!

EdSource's unit of @newsguild.org was recognized by management on Jan. 27, and 164 days later management has not met with us to begin negotiating a contract. We are ready and prepared to bargain. It is time to get to work and build a better @edsource.org.

The reporters of @edsource.org are excited to announce the formation of the #EdSourceGuild.
The work of EdSource journalists has never been more crucial, given the continuous threats to democracy and the unprecedented challenges facing the public education system. Since its founding, EdSource has grown from an authoritative source of school financial data and analysis to California’s leading education news source.
By unionizing, EdSource Guild members hope to maintain our organization's relentless drive for critical and ethical journalism, while building an inclusive and equitable newsroom. At a critical time for press freedoms and with the rights of journalists under constant threat, we also want to stand with our fellow organized workers in this age-old craft to protect the cherished common duty to inform the public without fear or favor. Our job is to hold the powerful accountable and be advocates for students, parents, educators and taxpayers. Now, this union must balance the scales of power and decision-making within our organization.
Our award-winning stories, investigations, data analysis, podcasts, roundtables and documentaries illuminate the toughest education issues and inform students, families and education decision-makers about California schools. EdSource journalists are often called upon by television and radio shows to discuss our stories and provide meaningful context to education issues.
To preserve and protect quality journalism, to have a say in decisions that affect coverage and to be fairly compensated for this work, EdSource reporters must unionize.
We want to create a culture that embraces a healthy work-life balance, and we want to be a destination where talented journalists can spend their careers. That requires adequate compensation that keeps up with the skyrocketing cost of living in California. Unionizing will help us create the best version of EdSource, protect our work and mission, and preserve this organization’s legacy for the future.
