Even in illness, she remained courageous — public about her diagnosis, steadfast in purpose, committed to the unfinished work of equity. Canada has lost an extraordinary human. May her legacy be a call to build research cultures as inclusive, rigorous, humane as the ones she believed were possible.

Headline is part of an imported debate in Canada about “EDI” (Using the America or corporate acronym “DEI”). Empirical questions: 1) How many federal, provincial, municipal govts use “DEI”?! 2) Are US and Canadian legislation and practices the same? 3) Conflation of ameliorative programs w/ discrim.
Screenshot of the headline of a National Post article entitled, DEI is 'illiberal, anti-merit,' says analyst as Poilievre pushes to end government DEI programs
'Governments should not have bureaucracies whose job it is to discriminate based on skin colour, ethnicity, gender,' says Mark Milke“.

Double standards. There’s need for evidence-based discussions about merit, excellence, quality, and competence. Most who invoke merit in US (esp against DEI) don’t define or model it. Strict meritocracy would oppose legacy initiatives, partisanship, patronage, nepotism, favouritism, mitigate biases.
