The bridges linking Seattle to its Eastside suburbs over Lake Washington literally float on the water, making for a *very* interesting ride in certain weather. One is the longest floating bridge in the world. I left S.C. before the Ravenel Bridge opened, and I vividly remember the Cooper bridges.

"the brightly coloured confectionery" is a wonderful example of the elongated yellow fruit periphrasis.
Passage from a Guardian article on Eddie Howe's leaving Newcastle United:

He conjured up an imaginary scene involving Springsteen asking for M&M's before a concert and being duly supplied with a dressing room overflowing with the brightly coloured confectionery. The same principle, he said, would apply to "Eddie", who would e [sic] furnished with "whatever he wants".

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Sonny Rollins. The Saxophone Colossus died May 25, 2026 at his home in Woodstock, NY at the age of 95.
"I think when the creative person ends, he continues in the next existence. I'm a person who believes this life isn't the be-all and end-all of everything. A spiritual person doesn't feel like that."

It is impossible to overstate how much my mother loved - LOVED - Christmas. Her last one was 15 years ago. The two trees in this picture are two of only 23 she had throughout the house that year. (Yes, she was a Victorian antiques dealer, like you can't tell that from the decor.)
A lovely 70-year-old woman wearing a dark sweater reading a Christmas card while sitting on the hearth of a white fireplace. To the viewer's left are a large Christmas tree and a smaller one, both ornately decorated in a rose theme. Throughout the picture are rose-themed antique tea sets and other Victorian decorations.
