Library Science Talk: «Good Enough» Archives? Rethinking Photographic and Audiovisual Collections in the Digital Age
Library Science Talk: «Good Enough» Archives? Rethinking Photographic and Audiovisual Collections in the Digital Age Podiumsdiskussion über das Audiovisuelle Erbe im Digitalen Zeitalter. Gäste: * Moderator: Katherine Rewinkel El-Darwish - European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) * Natālija Lāce – Latvian State Archive * Stephen J. Fletcher – University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill * Juan Alonso Fernández – Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) Mehr Informationen finden Sie unter: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1657140/ Abstract: Audiovisual archives are facing an unprecedented scale of image production, circulation, and transformation. While many of the associated challenges have precedents in analogue practices, the digital environment intensifies key issues such as selection, provenance, context, and long-term sustainability. Images are no longer stable objects tied to clearly defined frameworks. They are produced in massive quantities, circulate across platform-driven environments, and are increasingly shaped by algorithmic and AI-assisted processes. This raises fundamental questions about authorship, meaning, and the possibility of maintaining archival context over time. At the same time, established standards and best practices are often difficult to apply consistently under conditions of limited resources, technological instability, and institutional constraints. Rather than assuming that more technology leads to better outcomes, this session examines the tension between ideal models of archival practice and what is realistically achievable in everyday workflows. Bringing together three professional perspectives, the discussion explores how institutions make decisions about selection, formats, and processing strategies in contexts of abundance and uncertainty. Attention is given to the idea of “good enough” archival practice - understood not as a compromise in quality, but as a strategic, context-driven approach to managing complexity, scale, and responsibility in the digital age. CfP: Swiss Open Academic Data (SOAD) Day #infoclioevent

CfP: Swiss Open Academic Data (SOAD) Day
CfP: Swiss Open Academic Data (SOAD) Day We are excited to announce the second Swiss Open Academic Data (SOAD) Day, taking place on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at EPFL (Lausanne). This event will bring together researchers and practitioners active in Switzerland to explore Open Academic Data: how to use it, share best practices, and strengthen a national community around it. In our understanding, Open Academic Data is data about research and includes metadata on research outputs such as publications, research data and software, as well as data on funding and grants. Open sources include platforms such as OpenAlex, OpenAIRE, ORCID, Crossref, and ETER, among others. Whether you work with these datasets directly or are interested in leveraging them for research and innovation, this event is for you. Use this form to submit your proposal for contribution. If you have several proposals, feel free to submit the form multiple times. This year, the morning will be dedicated to exchange around tools, projects, results and initiatives around Open Academic Data through a keynote presentation, a few lightning talks and a poster session, and the afternoon will consist in a hackathon. You are welcome to contribute through a lightning talk or a poster. You may indicate your preference, but please note that the number of lightning talk slots is limited, and we will not be able to offer a lightning talk to everyone who requests one. The selection committee will review all submissions and decide whether each contribution is best presented as a lightning talk or a poster. Submission deadline: Sunday, 18 May 2026 We look forward to your ideas and to building a thriving Open Academic Data community together.   For any questions, feel free to contact us at info@soad.ch Organisiert von Swiss Open Academic Data EK 17. Appel à propositions: Living Books about History #infoclioevent
dlvr.it
Appel à propositions: Living Books about History
Call for Proposals: Living Books about History Die Living Books about History sind eine Sammlung digitaler Anthologien zu aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Themen.
