I wouldn't even respond to the requests, tbh, they're that unreasonable. I would rate those just about as highly as the rando requests for "can you give me a full annotated bibliography for my term paper"

why have a renowned writing center with a proven track record of teaching writing when you can churn out reams of factually inaccurate, stylistically devoid, sycophantic slop instead? Deming is a joke.

One big problem with all the MusicGen-derived programs, including Suno and Udio, is that the algorithm itself is fundamentally uninteresting, and the user isn't presented with right amount and kinds of controls to make anything interesting with them. It's not an artist-centric tool.

Many of us in my department have moved to no Grammarly, too, since it's just a fancy front end for ChatGPT, and I've seen essays that have been mauled by Grammarly into being indistinguishable from a ChatGPT slop output

I typically do 3 reviews for every journal article I publish (and three manuscript reviews per book of mine). I've gotten over 100 requests this year, though, which is obscene!

Riffing on what you're pointing out, I've never myself seen researchers get super emotionally attached or attribute pseudohuman characteristics to ML apps that they use for materials science, climate stuff, or music information retrieval—it's only the general-purpose LLMs with sycophantic properties

yup: students must know that all text that is uploaded to chatbots is effectively public domained, with big implications on privacy/confidentiality. Also re the lit review process, we are presenting the moral argument for accurately representing 2ndary sources (ie avoiding lying chatbot summaries)

Thanks for posting this and your response. It's been dismal and depressing to find once respectable philosophy journals getting filled up with transcripts of someone's (typically white men) "conversations" with a chatbot, the whole masquerading as scholarship. Hu has a productive angle on this.

what a surprise, anthropic, who have long demonstrated delusional traits concerning their tech, "sent" their newest frontier LLM model to a shrink to report on its "good mental and emotional functioning." No need for peer review when you have paid-for fake "science"! arstechnica.com/ai/2026/04/w...

Just the newest chapter in decades of anti-expertise buffoonery; in my (public) high school kids got beat up semi-regularly if they got As, contributing to a low graduation rate and poor job prospects for those who endured. Living in the UK and Turkey I rarely saw this there.

We're starting to get students who can't name a single musician at all—their whole frame of reference comes from listening to spotify's "lo-fi chill beats to study to". Some have also never seen a musical instrument played in person, and struggle to recognize what a guitar or violin is. Tough times!

it hasn't helped that there were a few hasty "stories" by so-called "psychiatrists" (unvetted, of course) that "suggested" that shittipy gippity was no worse than talking with a talk therapist... at some sort of unspecified task, of course.
