You know that trope from 1990s action movies like The Matrix or Blade, when there’s a scene in a nightclub, it’s always a cavernous space and everyone is in leather and the music is always booming techno? Maquina are like a live band version of that. They’re GREAT. tidal.com/album/514245...

Records are good, aren’t they? Here are some I’ve been enjoying recently.

What’s really good about this is that many of these pubs will have had a lot more seating in 2020 and 2021, but then that same council forced them to get rid so more of the public space in Soho could instead be used by cars 🫩

Obviously we never need more proof that “cancel culture” isn’t actually a thing, but here’s some anyway: @imagecomics.com are reissuing a 20 year old Warren Ellis book (previously published by DC/Wildstorm) later this year. amzn.eu/d/09hvq9lz

There was another good one yesterday where someone in a place with a Tyne & Wear metro station insists building new Tyne & Wear metro stations is a “complete waste of money”.

As a rule I try not to make assumptions about strangers quoted in news articles, but I feel fairly confident in saying that anyone who advocated for more buses over rail is not someone who would ever actually use public transport. It is 100% a driver’s answer.

Daniel Fawcett @majorlabeldebut.bsky.social · 21/07/2026

It’s good how the people who consider their lives to be ‘on hold’ because of a lack of affordable, reliable and comfortable public transport where they live never get these types of story written about them. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Yes! When I saw them in Sunderland earlier in the year there was a group of teenagers have a great old time. They got very excited for PUNK Girl in particular and were all queuing for merch and to meet Amelia after 😌

Almost all of those 90s records there are closer in time to the Flamin’ Groovies than today and that is objectively a horrible thought.

Did you know there’s a Christmas countdown webcam stream on YouTube? I think these are places that get pretty snowy in December but, uh, it’s May.

It’s profoundly ignorant to suggest that the Pope should be fighting crime on behalf of the Catholic Church. Anyone who was remotely familiar with Roman Catholicism would know that that’s what Daredevil is for

Caught Cassie Ramone and @thepainsofbeing.bsky.social at @bedfordesquires.bsky.social last night - quite possibly my first trip there since 2008(!!). Great show and frankly a treasure for a town like Bedford to have a venue of that quality.

Yeah it’s sad isn’t it. I rarely post about radio shows on here because most of the bands I play aren’t actually on here, so it just goes to the roughly six people I actually know…

I’m pretty much done with new radio shows for the year (December will be a best of and a 🎄Christmas show🎄) so I’ve updated the playlists of everything I’ve played this year. Spotify and Tidal links in here: linktr.ee/majorlabelde... If you want something else shout and I’ll see what I can do.
