Wishin’ and hopin’ Thinkin’ and prayin’ Plannin’ and dreamin’ Won’t get the job done, so we’re writing postcards to voters across America to get out the vote and turn the House and Senate Blue. Here’s just one example. #GOTV @tovoters.bsky.social @deniseforcongress.bsky.social
Color photo of the front and back of postcards to get out the vote. The partially-shown lower left corner of the front displays a general message in blue and red ink: “Don’t forget to vote.” On the back, in blue, red, green, and purple ink, is a message specific to a Nebraska campaign for U.S. House: “Elect Denise Powell to Congress and turn NE-02 Blue. Healthcare you can afford, lower everyday costs, and an end to insider trading. Be among the first to vote early starting October 5.” In the lower corners are brief notes: “Your vote is your voice!” and “Thanks for being a voter!”

A meditation offered by Wendell Berry, one of his loveliest, published in the slim volume “Openings” (Harvest/HBJ 1968): #poetry #WendellBerry
Poem by Wendell Berry: The Peace of Wild Things.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the green heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
Waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

#micropoetry #haiku #nature #lichens #Maine For 8 January 2025 Two worlds meet in one sharing water, light, and air: lessons from lichen
Close-up photo of foliose lichen, detached from nearby tree and lying upon a bed of dead maple, birch, walnut, and ash leaves. The lichen, possibly Platismatia tuckermanii, is pale gray-green and three-dimensional, with flat branches reaching up and outward, curled and serrated at their edges. The dead leaves upon which the lichen lies are varied shades of brown, some curled, some showing signs of fungus or insect damage. Photo by M.D. Bird, 3 January 2025, Maine

Bare tree branches reach up from the bottom of the frame, and others reach in from the left. A wisp of cloud gently blurs the Moon and planet. Other thin clouds pale the lower half of the sky, as the upper half darkens toward night. Photo by M.D. Bird, 3 December 2025, Maine
