The last one is obvious. Money makes the world go round, with enough money I could afford the mental and physical therapy I need, enjoy my life as it is and move forward. As it stands right now all I have is my past strangling me and my future looking like a bleak hellscape.

The first two are related to my past. It's not subtle. It has a death grip on me. I can't let it go no matter how much I want to. No matter how many positive affirmations I see, say, or am told by friends. I want it gone, stripped away and stomped into oblivion so I never have to think about it.

There are three things I consistently wish for on a near daily basis. 1) time travel to the past to tell my younger self all the things *she* should know when it mattered. 2) if time travel isn't possible, total amnesia. I want to forget everything that ever happened to me. 3) enough money.

Spring Comes Back
But Never the Same Way Twice

Once: pussy willows, which are not
cats, are not willows but something
soft refusing to be one thing.
I touched them. They let me.

Once: crocuses pushed through snow,
purple and furious. Beautiful and done
apologizing. The lake ice broke
into new geometries.

Once: mistook birdsong for a car alarm,
mistook a car alarm for my own pulse.
I still don’t understand why
the rhythm of life is want or fear.

Once: the the redbuds took their time,
the swell of each bud kept secret for weeks,
then one morning, the rain arrived
sideways, and there was pink everywhere.

Once: forsythia, sudden and obscene,
yellow-throated and shrieking
from every hillside,
the color of hope.

Each iteration, proof
nostalgia is just losing track of how
you are changed
by what you thought you knew.

The cherry blossoms are different this year.
The tree does not remember
last year's flowers,
so it makes new mouths to speak with.
