QRP with your moon art 🌙
Page from on-going WipP, unabridged-with-artist's-notes, GN version of Eliot's Wasteland.
“That corpse you planted last year in your garden,
“Has it begun to sprout? Will it bloom this year?
“Or has the sudden frost disturbed its bed?
“Oh keep the Dog far hence, that’s friend to men,
“Or with his nails he’ll dig it up again!
  “You! hypocrite lecteur!—mon semblable,—mon frère!”

Try coloured inks? Not always lightfast but rugged and nicely saturated. Used them when I coloured my inks by hand, Pelikan was the best back then.

Breakfast beer, hero of my youth!
Gentleman with beard reaching down to his Converse hi-tops. Wears baseball cap labelled "USA" and a tattoo on his fore arm. Clutching an empty beer bottle.
Done for "Poets Ranked by Beard Weight" by Gilbert Alter Gilbert, pubbed by Skyhorse. The latter pays on time and the former is a brilliant comic writer and fellow devotee of the divine Alberto Savinio.
This book is lunatic in a way that most books I've illustrated always are, but even MORE.

On this date in 2007, Will Schofield, now owner of 50 Watts Books in Philadelphia, shared a list of 20 unjustly neglected books he drew up as part of applying for a job with Paul Dry Books. Almost 20 years later, a few are back in print, but most still await their rediscovery neglectedbooks.com/?...

The NY Post is the newspaper that every art director and illustrator in the biz looked at, no matter which paper employed them, back in the day. The journos followed NYT and that tells you everything you need to know about the death of newspapers.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

'Le Canal au clair de lune, Gisors,' (1901) is a superb example of Henri Le Sidaner's canal paintings. He often painted these waterside settings with an eerie, twilight calm, seeking to explore the transitional moments of the day.

New blog post: Italo Calvino: L'écrivain perché

Italo Calvino: L’écrivain perché
The first minute of this Franco-German documentary doesn't present a title in English but the French title, L'écrivain perché, refers to Le Baron perché, one of Italo Calvino's earliest novels which English readers know as Baron in the Trees. The novel isn't the first of Calvino's flights of fancy—The Cloven Viscount preceded it—but in borrowing its title the documentary suggests that the tree-dwelling Baron's new way of living and viewing the world was personally significant for its author, something supported by the opening interview clip.

I think your work will be even better if you use a dip pen. Even a relatively stiff nib introduces enough subtle variations to make the lines more organic. I would try a Gillot 1950.
