It might be a little late in the day, but we can't let October 13th go by without a happy birthday to the best dad a wild magician could have- the mysterious Clary Caraway.

A collage of illustrations featuring Clary Caraway (a white man with short curly black hair, blue eyes, and a mischievous smile.)

The left image features Clary as an adult with a child version of himself in magical kid attire grinning in front of him. The top right image is a collection of moments with Clary and Basil, his son. The image below that has Basil hugging a seated Clary at the park. The image in the lower right hand corner is a young Clary in an 80s roller rink with a disco ball above him.

We're so back, ya'll. It's been a tough year for a lot of us but despite all of that, we've never given up. Feels good to pick up that pen again. #magicalboybasil

A black and white photo featuring a comic page in blue line and an arm to the right of the image, the hand of which is holding a micron pen and beginning to ink that top panel. There is another capped pen next to the arm and a pen case off to the side of the paper.

We love Democracy here at MBB 😊 On the first of every month we open an official vote on our Patreon for the month's illustration prompt! What will Beck draw in September? You can help decide!

A photo of several colorful art prints fanned out on a black and white patterned surface. There is a chibi image of an agender person with long blonde bangs, Beck, superimposed on the bottom center of the image, smiling and waving at the viewer.

Above them are the words 'Monthly Illustration Voting is Now Open on Patreon' followed by a link for https://www.patreon.com/c/magicalboybasil

How cool is this! We've been a part of Newtown's @chboothlibrary 's local collections display for this summer. We're still up for now so go catch some neat comic process work and check out a book....or five ;) #supportyourlocallibrary #lgbtwebcomic

A collage of three photos featuring an antique wooden display case that currently holds various pieces of comic artwork and process work.

The top image is the whole display case with three levels of different entries- the bottom has comic pages in various stages of production. The second level has a line of colorful illustrations featuring magical boys, girls, and an enby. The third tier has an open zine to the right hand side a news article beside it, magical boy standees beside that, and then a mucha style Magical Boy Basil poster with the pencil process beside it on the left hand side of the display case.

MBB is a long form comic but that's not all the comic making we do. For folks who aren't familiar with the concept, zines are short form comics/essays/stories that creators make by hand!

Image is a photo of a single black and white page of a zine, a short hand stapled comic. In the first panel we can see more than a sliver of, we see three figures- someone rushing past another person to push Noah, a white nonbinary teen out of the way of a menacing shadow!

In the next panel, we see the boy who pushed Noah- Basil- frozen in place, bracketed on both sides by the silhouettes of his stunned friends.

In the last panel we see Noah back to back with Eli, a black teen with glasses wearing a fedora and a trench coat. He's holding a camera and looking to Noah with shock and alarm.

Happy birthday, Riley Harris! A true summer girl ☀️

A half body illustration of a blonde haired blue eyed white girl named Riley. She is throwing a peace sign over her face with a hand near her hip. Her magical outfit resembles a white and red marching band uniform with gold trim. She has freckles across her cheeks and is making a playful expression at the camera.

It may be the last day of Pride month but that doesn't mean we'll ever stop celebrating who we are! Be proud, be magical, magicians- we love you just the way you arw ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

An illustration of two teens smiling joyously while holding and wearing different Pride flags. Basil, to the right, is a white Jewish boy with black curly hair in a teal and white dress holding up the gay male pride flag which contains different shades of green stripes, a white stripe, and stripes of varying shades of blue.

Eli, a Black teen with a patterned buzz cut and rainbow glasses, is wearing a long Progress pride flag like a boa and the Achillean flag like a sash around his waist. The Achillean flag has two light blue stripes surrounding a single white stripe with a stylized green carnation at the center of the white stripe. His outfit also reflects the colors of the gay male pride flag.

There is an emblem in the upper left corner that reads: 'Be Proud, Be Magical'.

It's still Pride so of course we have to showcase one of our favorite queer indie comics: Hot Knight by @alaynasketch Why do we love it? Uhh, Hot Knight is hot and Gorm is Bae of course. But truly, it's got shenanigans, great art, and enbies both hot and goblin- literally perfect 👌

A photograph of a purple platypus, Loom, plush sitting on a reading chair with a round pillow behind him. He's holding a red comic book with another red comic beside his foot with a title reading 'Hot Knight: Book 2'. There is a hot enby Knight and two cute goblins on the cover illustration.

Our final Pride color is here: Pink 💖 On the flag this stripe represents our sexuality, our physical expression of love and/or desire.

A photograph of a collage of art prints, a patch, and an enamel pin featuring illustrations that have an emphasis on the color pink, all laid over a pink paper background.

The center print features Basil, a white Jewish magical boy wearing a teal dress in a stylized illustration of different moods. He's sitting and gazing dreamily upward where a smaller version of him is running along a streak of magic after a fushia platypus, above that is a bust shot of Basil gasping in gay panic.

In the lower right corner is a heart shaped patch featuring Basil and Aaron, another white magical boy in a knight costume with their foreheads together, holding hands.

Beneath that is a print with a pink border that is mostly cut off but we can still see Basil's arm and dress as he leaps off screen.

To the lower left corner of the center print, a stained glass style illustration that is also partially cut off. It clearly features Basil princess carrying Aaron against a pink background, with Twill- a blue Jay familiar- and Spindle, a cat familiar as decorations on the right side. On top of that is an enamel pin of a living baseball smiling and surrounded by a swirl of magic. It reads 'I support magical boys 2021'.

In the upper left corner, there is a cut off illustration of Basil and Aaron having a quiet moment under the blossoming cherry trees.

The final print in the upper right corner is a pink pencil drawing on a white background of a white magical girl, Riley swinging her hammer with her weasel/ferret inspired familiar Fray beside her. It has a thick pink frame around it with swirls of magic and a cut off of her hammer.

Today's pride color is Violet 💜 On the flag, it represents Spirit. In this case, queer resilience, spirituality, and pride!

A photograph of a collage of art prints and charms featuring the color purple, all laid on top of a purple paper background. The center print features an Indian magical girl, Sanjeet, who has long purple black hair. She's smiling and swinging a dowsing pendant with her left hand.

To the lower left corner of the center print is a small charm of a purple purple platypus named Loom with a word bubble behind him that has symbols implying a censored curse word. In the top right corner is a larger Loom charm with a grumpy Loom sitting on top of a big yellow star.

The print in the top right corner is mostly cut off with a purple starry sky and magical kids walking just out of sight. The print to the right is Sanjeet again but in bright neon colors- she's back to back with Aaron, the knight magical boy, but we don't see his face.

Beneath the center print is colored pencil art of Basil, a white Jewish boy in a dreamscape looking concerned.

In the left corner of the image, the print is of Loom with Noah, a white nonbinary magician who is smiling at Loom as Loom talks to him. There are emojis conveying what they're saying.

The final print in the top left corner is partially cut off like the rest but it looks like Loom in a partial magical girl outfit in a 90s anime style. Spindle, the cat familiar, looks on dramatically.

We're blue (da ba dee, da ba di) today 💙 Given production costs, Gilbert Baker eventually condensed the Indigo and turquoise stripes into a royal blue. Both Indigo and Blue on the flag represent Harmony and Serenity. Harmony within ourselves, our community, and serenity to make it through.

A photograph of a collage of art prints and charms featuring the color blue, all laid out on top of blue paper.

The center print features a group of magical boys and girls free falling in a blue sky. In the center of it is Basil, a white boy with curly black hair in a teal dress tangled up with Aaron, another white boy with blonde hair in a white and gold knight outfit with blue accents. He has a sword at Basil's neck and Basil's raised hand has magic at Aaron's face. Sanjeet, an Indian girl with long black hair, is falling to the right, Riley- a white girl with blonde hair and a manic grin, has a magical hammer at the ready to the left. Eaton, a Latino boy with short wavy hair and a mad grin, is behind Basil and Aaron with lightning magic spiraling from his hand.

There is a blue and white bunny enamel pin in the top left corner of the center print that reads 'I support magical boys 2022'. In the bottom right is a charm of Aaron swinging his pen sword.

The top print covered by the center art is clearly of a beach and clear blue skies- two figures are running, partially unseen. To the right, Basil is in a different magical outfit, somberly reaching out to ghosts just out of sight.

Beneath that is a print mostly unseen with a star of David pattern around the frame and Mace , Basil brother, with a yarmulke almost out of view.

In the lower left corner, we see a sliver of a black, white, and blue Clary Caraway's face and a hand holding a pocket with magic rising from it.

Above that we see a foul print of Basil, with his face partially obscure, in a teal magical outfit. He's holding his hands cupped around a magical baseball tangle that's smiling at the camera. Magic swirls all around.

Turquoise is today's color! 🎨 On Gilbert Baker's original flag, this color represents Magic and Art. Art IS magic and to be queer in all ways is magical in and of itself.

A photograph of a collage of art prints, stickers, charms, and pins featuring the color turquoise and similar shades all set on top of turquoise paper.

The center print features a magical boy, Basil who is white with curly black hair, wearing a white and teal magical ensemble that invokes a water theme complete with shorts and different length white cloth boots with turquoise trim. He's holding a decanter from which water is magically pouring, kicking his legs out toward the viewer.

There are two Basil charms on top of it- one to the top left corner and a smaller one to the right of the print. In the upper right corner is an enamel pin with Basil that says 'Gay, magical, and panicking.' At the bottom of the print is a sticker with a pocket watch with text that says 'Always time for Magical Boys'.

Beneath the center print's lower right corner is stained glass style art of the pocket watch from the sticker.

To the lower left corner is art of Eli, a young Black boy, smiling as he vogues.

In the upper left corner, we see part of an image of a pride party where Basil and Aaron, a white blond boy, are dancing in gay and demisexual themed outfits.

The print in the upper right corner is a stylized illustration of Basil, Eli, and Aaron, and others at a renn faire. They're dressed up in fantasy costumes and laughing with each other.

Green is today's color 💚 The green stripe on the pride flag represents Nature, our connection to the natural world- how we love, our community, is rooted in the same existence as everyone and everything else.

A photograph of art prints featuring the color green laid out on top of a green paper background. The center print features an ink wash painting of a nonbinary magician, Noah who is white, in a Peter Pan-esque ensemble, they standing by a tree trunk overlooking a field and are holding a thyrsus in their left hand, surrounded by a frame of daffodils with the thyrsus repeated on the right and a wooden bracelet in the left bottom corner.

An acrylic charm of Noah lays to the lower right corner of the print. An enamel pin of a car monster with the words 'I support magical boys 2023' in its mouth rests to the upper left corner.

Most of the right side of the image is a cut off print of Noah in the magical outfit again. To the bottom right corner is a cut off print of what appears to be an abstract park and a young man's head, Mace, barely peeking into frame.

The lower left corner print features a sliver of a baseball field and a bit of Noah again, peeking out around the center print on top of it.

In the upper right corner of the image, we see part of a marker drawing of a white oak on a hill with a dirt pathway leading up to it.

Today's color is the effervescent yellow 💛! On the original Gilbert Baker flag, yellow represents Sunlight. The hope, optimism, and warmth of our queer community.

A photograph of a collage of art prints and charms all featuring the color yellow and laid on top of yellow paper.

The center print features a Latino boy, Eaton, smiling happily as he cuddles Ravel, a familiar that looks like an Australian cattle dog. In its top corner are two acrylic charms of Eaton in his magical boy outfit and Eli, a Black boy, with a set of photographs. In the bottom corner of the center print is an acrylic figure of Aaron, a White boy in a knight themed magical outfit looking up Eaton on the print.

At the top of the center print is an upside down print that is partially cut off- it features Eli to the left and Noah, a white nonbinary teen with blond spikey hair. We see Noah's eyes looking toward Eli.

To the right of the center print, we see the portion of it that features Eli in a yellow shirt and shorts excitedly taking pictures of something covered by the center print. It's clearly nighttime.

In the lower left hand corner of the photo is a cut off print. We can see some chibis on a yellow background but not much else.

To the right of the center print is part of a print where we can see Aaron falling, dressed in a white and gold outfit with parts of that outfit on the side of the print.

We're showcasing the vibrant, energetic color orange 🧡 today! On the pride flag, the orange stripe represents Healing. Celebration, for example, is a form of communal healing for queer folks~ Also, come by our table at Danbury Pride in CT today at 1pm to 5pm EST- we'd love to see ya'll.

A photo of a collage of art prints featuring the color orange, all set on top of orange paper. The center print features an orange cat with black stripes unraveling into strings on a white background. There is one acrylic charm of the same cat, Spindle, to the bottom right corner. On the print itself is also an 'I support magical boys' enamel pin featuring Spindle as well.

Beneath the center print, in the lower right corner is an art deco style illustration cut off. We see an orange evening sky and a silhouette seated at a table. To the lower left corner, a monochromatic orange and purple illustration of two figures- Eli and Noah- is also partially cut off. We see them smiling among the leaves.

Above that in the top left corner, we have Basil's body, face unseen, walking in front of an orange background. Above all that is a print that has an orange balcony but the rest is cut off.

The final illustration is Spindle again, in the style of famous Le Chat Noir poster.

Today's color is red ❤️ This stripe on the Pride flag represents 'Life'. It's a color of passion, strength, and love. It says 'we're still here.'

A photograph of a collection of art prints featuring the color red. The center print is of a smiling magical girl- a blonde white girl named Riley- marching along with a magical hammer lifted in her hand and a ferret-like familiar grinning beneath her. Her magical ensemble is a red skirt with gold trim and a white jacket with a red accent panel down the middle and red cuffs reminiscent of marching band uniforms. There is an acrylic keychain charm chibi version of Riley lain on top of the print to the right and just beneath her hammer.

In the lower right corner is a print partially tucked under the center print. This one has Basil, a white Jewish boy with slightly curly, wavy black hair, passing through a copy of himself in a magical transformation. The version on the left is civilian clothing- a jacket, long sleeved shirt, pants and boots- and the version on the right is the magical ensemble that we can't quite see. Both versions of him are wearing a red scarf.

To the left of that is another print, partially cut off in the photo. It features Basil again but in papercraft, wearing a dark gray jacket with a red fur lined hood. He's recoiling away from a flame.

Next to that, in the lower left corner is a cut off print of a brick building with a magical bunny posed in front of it. We see the words 'old Clover mi' on the print.

Above that, the top left corner print is cut off but we can see a red string drawn as a border on the print and some black and white hands tying a red string bracelet onto a waiting wrist.

The final print beneath that is to the upper right. It features black silhouettes of tangles and a grinning magical boy on a background gradient that fades from red to yellow.

Black is today's color, so let's take a look at what it means on Daniel Quasar's Progress Pride flag. While the stripe did appear on the Philadelphia flag and a Seattle variant, it maintained its symbolic representation of the POC within our community but furthermore has an additional meaning.

A photograph of a collage of art prints that are black themed, sitting on top of black paper. The center print features Eli with a camera pointed up at a silhouette of a platypus- it's a parody of the I Want to Believe poster from the X Files.

To the right is a dark print featuring Aaron, a knight magical boy with dramatic dark shadowed rendering. To the lower left corner is a black and white pencil sketch of Aaron and Noah though it's hard to see the specifics. To the top left is a black and white image of an empty street with a swirl of gold magic running over it. To the top right, is a portion of a black and white cross hatched drawing of a car turned into a mechanical monster.

Today's Pride flag color is brown~ In 2017, the Philadelphia flag first introduced both black (more on this tomorrow) and brown stripes to represent folks of the global majority- indigenous folks and people of color. It's meant to highlight the issue of racism that still

A photograph of a collage of different art prints featuring the color brown, overlaid on top of brown construction paper. The center illustration features three teens- a Black boy, Eli, and two White boys, Noah and Basil- trying on clothes at a thrift shop.

There is an antique camera sketch in the lower right corner. A boy pouring coffee for a platypus in the lower left corner. An expression sheet of platypuses in the upper left corner and a corkboard with Polaroid of two friends, Eli and Basil, in the upper right.

There is also a small acrylic charm of Eli with a modern digital camera in his hands in the upper left corner of the center art print.

We're kicking off Pride month by celebrating each color of the Pride Flag! And we're starting here with the baby blue, white, and light pink which represents the trans folks in our community. For those who may not know, the trans flag was designed by Monica Helms in 1999.

A photograph of a collage of art prints on top of baby blue, white, and light pink paper. The center image is of teens reading comics together with two animal familiar, a cat in the center and a platypus on the right draped over Basil and Aaron's laps respectively.

The right side of the image is rendered completely and as it progresses to the left, it transitions to inks, then to pencils and blue line just like the steps for traditional comic making.

The prints beneath the center image feature more blues on the blue side and are heavier on pinks on the pink side. They're not the feature so it's just hints of figures in different illustrations.

Marco, a nonbinary illusionist, sits with his/their hand outstretched, an illusory bird fluttering up by his/their face. Marco is Sicilian, tan with dark brown curly hair. His eyes are glowing white. They're wearing a gray feather trimmed jacket and heavy books for a winter climate.
