Good morning @ecvp.bsky.social! ☕If you are wondering how imagery and perception interact and compete, and how to quantify these competitive interactions in visual cortex with fMRI,🧠please drop by the poster session this afternoon and chat with me about my newest study (with @peelen.bsky.social)

New preprint ! 🎺 👇 We show that objects can facilitate scene recognition irrespectively to their semantical link to the scenes. TMS to Object-selective LOC eliminated such facilitation! Congratulations to Aaron for his first paper coming from a chunky master thesis project!

What do we look for when searching for objects in our daily-life environments? Very happy that I can now share this review, together with @suryagayet.bsky.social , @predictivebrain.bsky.social and @peelen.bsky.social🥳 A brief thread below!

🚨 New paper out in Science Advances 🚨 With @suryagayet.bsky.social and @peelen.bsky.social, in two fMRI studies we investigate mental object rotations that are driven by the scene context, rather than purely by cognitive operations. 🧵 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

After 4 exciting years of analysing many searching or imagining brains, I successfully defended my thesis and am now officially #phddone 👩🏼‍🎓📖🥳🎉 a huge thank you to everyone who joined and supported me on this journey, especially my supervisors @peelen.bsky.social and @predictivebrainlab.bsky.social!

Our group at the Donders Institute 🧠 in Nijmegen (🇳🇱) has opened a (temporary) data analyst position to join us in uncovering EEG correlates of search processes and age related differences. Interested in how cognition develops across the lifespan and in working with cool people? shorturl.at/ZqkoY

How fast do we extract distance cues from scenes 🛤️🏞️🏜️ and integrate them with retinal size 🧸🐻 to infer real object size? Our new EEG study in Cortex has answers! w/ @dkaiserlab.bsky.social @suryagayet.bsky.social @peelen.bsky.social Check it out: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

In this review article, I summarize some of our recent work on the neural basis of visual search in scenes, showing how attention and expectation interactively drive preparatory activity in visual cortex and jointly modulate the visual processing of potential target objects. doi.org/10.1177/0963...
