light gun games are a big peak of game design for me. pick up a peripheral, get taken on a kinetic journey. built on bombast and quick reactions - totally over the top by design. you can’t “lose”; you can only run out of credits. plus, they’re perfect date games!

been a joy to find the perfect shots for the PENITENTS trailer. love to edit, love to sequence. this is what I grew up doing, and it's been rewarding to get back into practice for this trailer. excited to share the full thing with y'all at launch. (more film is on the way.) #13DaysofPenitents

Sega in 2016 vs Sega in 2017

The top photo shows a picture of noted dictator Joseph Stalin walking side by side with Sally Acorn from the Archie Sonic The Hedgehog comics and Sonic SatAM. The bottom shows the same photo, but with nobody beside Stalin, a blank space where Sally once stood. For the unaware, Archie lost the Sega license after a protracted legal mess and all the material was subsequently retconned, including Sally's entire existence.

“Penitents is a wet, messy, queer kiss to New French Extremity and female revenge cinema. I use graphic, grotesque imagery in conjunction with upsetting subject matter to skewer norms and raise questions about gender. Ultimately, it’s a fable about the violent ways people are divided—and how they might come together to choke out the deep, fetid rot of prejudice.”

never forget the ending of Star Fox: Command where Fox and Falco give up bounty hunting to become gay F-Zero racers

End 9 - Fox becomes depressed. Falco gives him the idea that changed both their lives; retire as pilot and engineer their Arwings as racing machines. They enter the G-Zero Grand Prix, and Fox becomes happy with his new job to Falco's relief. The racing duo become household names, and their days as part of Star Fox become a mere memory.

Star Fox cries into his drink while Falco touches his shoulder and comforts him in the Nintendo game Star Fox Touch Command

both Goodbye, Lara and Sparks of Tomorrow are, in part, stories of queer romance broken apart by circumstance, societal pressure, or family obligation. the shows hinge on the relationships between Mari and Lara, as well as Yosuke and Seiroku, and the stakes to them.

every female revenge film series I’ve encountered leaves out I Spit On Your Grave, but programs stuff like Ms. 45 and Savage Streets. it’s really confusing and disheartening to see the movie’s legacy get astroturfed by films which came later.

so much good stuff highly recommend the Angel Guts series, most of Impulse’s Nikkatsu pinky releases too. really big fan of Flower and Snake - one of my favorite movies ever. starting with that then diving into the director’s other pinku films is a great starting place

120

madeline! @mads.haus · 23/08/2026

this is a later pinku but still retains so much of the sexually charged bite of that early 70s stuff. gorgeous imagery in this one.

Reddit threads full of people who are “confused” and talking about the Puppet Master robbed Motoko of “consent” and saying the show has gone “full Evangelion” 🤌🤌🤌 we are FEASTING the dummies are leaving the room…!

190

madeline! @mads.haus · 23/08/2026

because Motoko is so much more than lunch dates and giggle tee-hee. Ghost in the Shell is about a hegemonic woman breaking through patriarchal control mechanisms to find a gender, a self truer than our society provides. this is why it’s always been a trans story, to me.

190

madeline! @mads.haus · 23/08/2026

Motoko becomes a more interesting character after her encounter with the Puppet Master, which is true of the manga too. she starts as almost a Deunan-lite before she’s forced to reckon with the interconnected nature of her synthetic life. this is where she becomes the Motoko I love.

150

madeline! @mads.haus · 23/08/2026

The Ghost in the Shell was excellent this week. rly getting to the bleeding mechanical heart of why I love this series. it strips bare the formulaic artifice of the early episodes to “pill” Motoko with something so much bigger than body parts, government, even a physical existence.
