In the last couple of days, seven blurb quotes/endorsements for my disabled horror anthology have landed in my inbox, and I couldn’t be prouder of this book! My publisher will be making cute little graphics for the quotes and I will share here when allowed!

Well this is a first! I’m in an online lecture and in the housekeeping section, the lecturer said “if there’s a fire in your location, you should know where the emergency exits are, so get out.”

I spent so much on my table pitch for Comic Con, not to mention Public Liability insurance, business cards, and stock of my indie published books. I’m self-employed due to chronic illness, and now I’m just going to have to write off this loss which I also can’t really afford to do.

I had a night in hospital, and I’ve pretty much been bedbound at home since. What really sucks is that I had my first Comic Con appearance booked for this weekend, and now I’m too unwell to go and sell my books.

Last week, I was hospitalised due to influenza. It was so scary as I couldn’t even keep water down and after 30 hours of that I was so dehydrated. My husband took me to the local hospital and we were sent to another one straight away, where I was treated promptly due to sepsis risk.

I had pneumonia at the beginning of the year, a bad cold last week, and for the last two days I’ve been sick with fever, chills, aches, and a wicked sore throat. All this on top of my chronic illnesses and disability. Why I can’t I catch a break?! I just want to write and promote my books & I can’t

Why is the hardest part of writing sitting down and turning the laptop on? Like once I do this I am fine. But getting to this point? It can take me days.

Let’s do a proper introduction! I write thrillers, horror, dystopians, sci-fi, fantasy, and dark contemporary novels. YA and adult. I’m a PhD student studying intersections between the gothic and prehistory. I have a herd of Shetland ponies and three adorable Guinea pigs. Hello!

I have just spent two hours in high-security archives, sitting next to Daphne du Maurier’s actual writing desk, while reading folklorist Theo Brown’s research on canine ghosts. #novelresearch

I am feeling like such a scholarly writer because I just booked a reservation for the Special Collections Reading Room to examine 20 boxes of handwritten notes and manuscripts from 20th century folklorist Theo Brown. This is for novel research!

I found it so inspiring and evocative being back here and a new story may now be brewing…

The other legend is that she was a young woman who rejected the advances of a man and in retaliation he accused her of being a witch and had her drowned, but with her last breath she cursed him. His body was found three days later and she turned into a demon mermaid and now haunts the lake.

There are two legends about how the mermaid came to live here. One is that she was a water nymph brought here by the seafarer she fell in love with, and after his death she became angry and began to haunt the lake.

One of my earliest memories is going to the mermaid’s pool (Black Mere Pool in the Peak District) with my parents, and today I got to go back there with my godparents! The pool is said to be bottomless and a mermaid lives there.
