So incredibly proud of the team of reporters at @thediscourse.ca. We put out four really great stories (and five newsletters) this week. And last weekend, we co-hosted a successful event for International Women's Day. I'm going to share the pieces and video from the event in this thread. ✨

A pair of photos showing the good and not good aspects of deep powder skiing. The 1st is from Sunday at Mt Cain, in bounds. The 2nd is from Monday, showing the Size 2 avalanche in the out of bounds area west of Mt Cain. (Namgis First Nation, northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada)
The botom of the photo is a snow covered steep slope with snow covered trees at the right center and left center. In the distance are smaller mountains with snow covered trees. Across the top are rugged and distant snow covered mountains. The photo is of a snow covered steep mountain slope. In the center right the crest and fracture line of an avalanche is visible. The top of the photo is a rocky and rugged mountain top, the bottom 1/3 is of snow covered fir trees.

Enjoyed writing this. I think about this stuff often based on past experiences being near wildfires. We also got into a discussion about ways to take care of yourself while reporting/documenting topics such as wildfires or natural disasters, which can sometimes feel impossible but is so important.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall. They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+. Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them. I think about it a lot in moments like this.
