Having now watched all of season one, I really liked Starfleet Academy. It's cheesy, and hopeful, and silly. SAM (Kerrice Brooks) is especially a highlight. It's just what I needed. Not perfect, but what is?

As if the September new book releases knew I was gonna need some wins, they also sent me Bodies of Magic by Freya Marske. Reads as if the Crows in Six of Crows were fantasy medical students trying to solve a murder.

Didn't get its due because it's indie pub'd, but the Cursebreakers series by Madeleine Nakamura is this dark academia fantasy about a bipolar professor who uncovers a conspiracy at his institution but isn't sure he can believe his own mind. It's truly incredible and more people should read it.

The book cover of Cursebreakers by Madeleine Nakamura. A man in a brown cloak and teal shirt holds a glowing sword.

I'd like to keep doing it, if gamedev'll have me. Writing and designing for games is the best job. Even when it's hard and the industry sucks. Who knows what my next 10 years'll look like? One can only hope.

Didn't expect to be unemployed on my 10th anniversary in gamedev, but here we are. I still don't regret switching careers and leaving LA. I've met my favorite people in the world making games. I've gotten to work on dream properties. I've gotten to hear my words performed by incredible voice actors.

Just finished the astounding She's a Doll by Barbara Truelove. I already liked Of Monsters and Mainframes a lot. She's a Doll is even better. A young woman is murdered and ends up haunting a creepy doll. How's she going to get her revenge on the guy who killed her now?

genAI has replaced what was my entry-level job at Telltale, which was about 75% "taking notes in meetings." It meant I got to attend meetings way above my pay grade and learn SO much SO fast. I did a GDC talk that's like 60% obsolete now about it.
