I need to be more specific with my prayers. God clearly heard “dye” when I said “die.”

And the paint did not go on well. I need to improve my airbrushing skills. It's not my favorite part of modeling.

It's just been a frustrating process - lots of fiddly bits that fought me the whole time. Some projects just go like that.

You need to relax, they said. Take up a hobby, they said. Model railroading is fun, they said. 🤬 Tichy rebuilt USRA boxcar. Still needs decals (P&LE or PMK&Y), touch-ups, and weathering. Ceramcoat craft paint. Not happy with the paint job; I need to experiment more. #modeltrains

Another activity that requires no help from cats... #cats

We took the cats to the vet this morning, which stressed them out. DeeCee shit herself (of course), but PolLee found her happy place.

Vincent "Vinnie" Dustbag. The kind of player whose uniform was always dirty.

Darn it! I was planning on using the dumpster for our bathroom remodel to get rid of the leftovers from my basement lab! NOW what am I going to do?

Did some 1:1 modeling last week at the Quincy & Torch Lake in Hancock, MI. #modeltrains

Nice! Some day I'd like to get out there to see that museum. And I have an HOn3 model conversion in the queue for a similar locomotive.

This is a picture of a cat. I'm not sure what thing in front of it is....

It's fun. The challenge is to recreate the past in miniature. And it can be quite a challenge, depending upon how fussy you are.

People were really much more mechanical back then, and much more prone to have these kind of tool chests. A lost art, really. I use them to store my hobby tools. (I'm a model railroader.)

Were your dad and grandfather machinist?

They are treasures...These are from antique stores and estate sales, and required varying degrees of restoration. The Kennedy on the left needs to be stripped and refinished. The Union in the middle really needed no work, while the smaller Union on the right needed a lot of work.

I can't help myself. I just LOVE these little tool chests! (There's a Gerstner upstairs, too....)

As an NMRA contest judge I've always encouraged people to compete against themselves to improve their skills, not to try to beat other entrants; it bugs me when people badmouth the judges for being "unfair" because they're disappointed with their scores. Ask the judges - there's probably a reason.

I just came across a great quote from Tony Koester in the June 2009 Model Railroader: "If winning a blue ribbon in a model contest helps to make you a better modeler, that's good. If beating the other guy is your main objective, you may have confused hobbies with sports." #modeltrains

Well. St. Paddy's Day storm forcast: 1-3 FEET of snow (up to 4 feet inland), 60-70 MPH wind gusts, and 20-30 foot waves on Superior. Buckle up, here we go!
