okay, so, revolution 9. it's a garbled, mangled, distorted, chopped-into-bits-and-reconstituted-in-leftover-frying-oil cacophany of tape loops and other such noises, and... i kind of love it. i get it, i think, in our own way. it's not about anything specific, it's just noise, but that's the point.

the white album is good. great, probably. it's a hodge-podge of styles and themes and ideas, but it works as an album because of the antithesis there. the beatles invented the cohesive "album" as we know it, and killed it a few years later, and that's really neat, even if not every song is great.

do we like listening to it now? hell no. it's noise and we don't want to listen to it. but we did, and we have to, every day and every hour and every few minutes. revolution 9 is ever-present in us, a creature who exists even though it doesn't want to. it's what we hear every day, slowly killing us.

lennon said the song isn't about death. he said to listen to it on a sunny day and see if it still sounds like death. we wonder what it'll be like listening to revolution 9 in 50 years, when everything we're worried about now has passed, and things are (presumably) better than they are now.

revolution 9 is what this year, 2026, sounds like. if revolution is the revolution happening as intended, and revolution 1 is the revolution regrouping and centering itself, then revolution 9 is the revolution dying, as everything gets worse and no one knows what to do about it. anything goes.

we were reading the d-rex's page on the jurassic park wiki yesterday. never seen its, but the concept of a creature that shouldn't exist, one brought about by fucked-up experiments that's in constant agony and just wants to die, really resonates with us. i wonder why! does it hear revolution 9 too?

last night, as we were struggling to sleep with our new CPAP mask on that makes us feel like there's something stuck to our face and it's sucking out our soul, but it's there to fix a problem that could kill us even though it feels like it's killing us instead, revolution 9 is what we were hearing.

mackenzie e.v. @mackenzie-ev.myatproto.social · 10/10/2026

it's what we hear when we're overwhelmed and don't know what to do with ourselves. it's what we hear when things seem hopeless but we have to keep *going* because we're supposed to. it's what we hear when we're laying in bed trying to sleep but can't because our mind is still active. it's *noise*.

cry baby cry is pretty damn good, i love the heaviness of the kick drum. can you take me back is a sweet little intermission that i like a lot, even if it's not an "official" track. revolution 9. good night is a decent closer, it's an easy listen. i like side 4, but not as much as sides 1 and 3.

mackenzie e.v. @mackenzie-ev.myatproto.social · 10/10/2026

revolution 1 isn't my preferred version of the song, but i kinda fuck with the doo-wop vocals and the brass in the backround, it works here. honey pie may be more "granny music", but like the others, i love it. savoy truffle is super funky and smooth, and it makes us want chocolate, the bastards.

sexy sadie is really good. helter skelter is probably paul's best song on the album, i really love how dirty and dissonant it is and how the lyrics mesh with that. long long long is pretty good, not really my thing but i can absolutely see why so many love it. side 3 is better than 2, but not 1.

mackenzie e.v. @mackenzie-ev.myatproto.social · 10/10/2026

birthday starts off really blandly, until it goes full proto-punk rock a minute in and gets really really great. yer blues really does capture how it feels to just be sick of living, and i love that. mother nature's son is alright. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey is funny.

mackenzie e.v. @mackenzie-ev.myatproto.social · 10/10/2026

why don't we do it in the road is... funny, but it kinda sucks. i will is paul at his schmaltziest, i don't really care for it. julia is really beautiful in a way that works a lot better for us than the previous song, point goes to lennon. overall, i think side 2 is a step down from side 1.

blackbird is good, but it plays a lot on pandora so i'm kinda sick of it. piggies is okay, not my favorite. rocky raccooon is whatever, but the parts where the beat picks up are really good. don't pass me by definitely has "carnival vibes" in the instrumental, but it's fun and i like ringo's vocals.

happiness is a warm gun is... wild, wacky time signatures are one of our favorite musical ideas and i love how far lennon goes with it. martha my dear is the song lennon should've called out as "granny shit", but i guess i love granny shit cause this shit slaps. i'm so tired is how i feel right now.

mackenzie e.v. @mackenzie-ev.myatproto.social · 10/10/2026

lennon criticizing ob-la-di as "granny shit" is really funny when you consider bungalow bill exists, ik it was a singing exercize but it's just so hokey. while my guitar gently weeps has never been a favorite of ours but it's really great, i just wish it wasn't as long and repetitive as it ended up.

back in the u.s.s.r. is really good. dear prudence isnt half bad. glass onion is really funny but i like it. ob-la-di ob-la-da is a fucking wonderful, bouncy song and i refuse to believe that it sucks. wild honey pie is... annoying as sin, but i like the descending guitar chords.
