I'm person that been watching Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision, Dark and Elevation since it begin. For me, I haven't seen every AEW ppv ( I only seen All Out 2019, Double or Nothing 2020, Revolution 2021, and Revolution 2024.). So this rewatching of old Aew stuff is going to be fun for me.

AEW discourse in a nutshell, screenshotted, January 1st, 2025: #AEW #AEWDynamite #AEWOnMax

North American based wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling largely deals with hyperbolic, reactionary discourse from the wider wrestling community, and in this instance, it’s regarding the company’s newest innovation, the “Casino Gauntlet Match”, which is essentially a Royal Rumble that can end at any moment via pinfall, but goes along (almost) endlessly until said pinfall is achieved.

Despite the match only happening 3 times in company history, with the most recent one being nearly 5 months ago, a fan still believes AEW is somehow doing this match too frequently

Take that for what you will.

I feel the same way, all 5 years that AEW has been on TV, I’ve seen content creators & fans straight up report inaccurate information, mainly because a lot of wrestling fans didn’t have access to the product to dispute/fact check it, only the hardcore fans did. I think folks are in for a ride

This is going to be a sort of Breaking Bad situation. That show picked up steam when the first 3 seasons came on Netflix then everyone caught up. This move is going to be great for #AEW I find a lot of viewers are gonna be All Elite 🤼

I’m getting my mind blown by the folks who never watched AEW, catching up on MAX, & going “old AEW was so much better”, when THAT version of AEW had folks saying they were gonna go outta business every. single. week. It’s actually nuts to see in real time. Folks said they’d never get a MAX deal !

shouldn’t be that hard to understand no one wants the vibes killed. if gamers had more friends they know this is a basic tent of socialization. problem is modern gamers have chronic FOMO, and genuinely can’t cope properly with seeing a bunch of folks having fun with something they didn’t

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

The C2 is forever safe from wrestling fans & podcasters attempting to cannibalize it with bad-faith criticism, because there’s actual math involved lol If they can’t be bothered to actually watch the product they complaining about, they damn sure ain’t gonna make the effort to add some points up

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

It’s sad, like if you tried to apply wrestling fan logic to some shit like Breaking Bad I think you would actually have a fuckin aneurysm lol It’s like the suggestion of nuance or subtlety, or the slightest responsibility on the them as fans to remember shit, is an affront lol

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

Is it cowardice or are developers already overworked & underpaid so at bare minimum, let them at least remake something they could enjoy the process of instead of doing a repair job on a obscure mid 2000s flop that might not be appreciated by entitled fans like you anyways? I seriously hate gamers

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

wrestling fans these days could see a back bump & act like it’s as complicated as astrophysics unless michael cole is screaming some sort of plot synopsis at them as it’s happening

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

FTR & Claudio/Mox also had a match at Revolution 2024, elements of this feud were planted throughout the year But a generation of adults raised on Michael Cole Cliffnotes genuinely cannot comprehend North American professional wrestling without being treated like they’re suffering from dementia

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

Stephanie and Gulia also should’ve went straight to the main roster, that division is banking it all on Becky/Charlotte/Jade returns, and something coming out of whatever tf they’re doing with Rhea/Liv & Iyo Those midcard titles are DOA for me sorry. Just look at the mismanagement of the tag belts

000

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

And while I’m at it? They sent that dude Ethan Page to NXT and by the end of the year, the men’s division was fucking dead Idk how to explain it, but it’s some dudes you don’t slot into top guy divisions because it’s gonna inadvertently tank the rest of the card. Gotta slow everything down for him

000

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

The IC Title doesn’t have that week-to-week momentum that it had with Gunther. For starters, they didn’t do enough with Sami’s reign, he was like 4-5 bangers short of Gunther’s standard. Bron’s had some good matches but his character is still ehhh & Jey lost it waaaaay too soon.

Also, Seth Rollins seriously shouldn’t lose to CM Punk. Cody beat him 3-0 in their feud with a busted titty. He lost 2 nights in a row at Mania 40. He lost to fucking Damian Priest. Got his ass beat by Bronson Reed. And didn’t work Survivor Series HHH might Dolph Ziggler this dude

METAL GEAR ZEPH. @m3talg3arz3ph.bsky.social · 31/12/2024

If Tony Khan fumbled Chad Gable’s momentum throughout the year the way HHH did, I think fans would’ve filed a petition. Look at where Bayley is now compared to January 2024. What the hell happened to the 3 tag divisions? Andrade is going 50/50 with rookies & holding a Twitter belt

The new modern kayfabe is being deliberately obtuse about AEW angles but also deadass thinking the last 6 or so months of Bloodline or Judgement Day booking has been coherent Didn’t The Rock show up at the end of a PLE, do a countdown, & then fucked off for months?

Five years in, AEW can still do first time match ups between Day 1 talent, & matches that have never happened between former WWE guys as well. Also, five years in, there’s legitimately high expectations for a women’s match on the card because of the division’s elevated workrate. LFG. #AEW

I’ll always respect the promotion for how they handled his loss & the respect they showed his family. There’s so much active callousness in the wrestling business, but the celebration of Brodie Lee is one of the most extended acts of kindness we’ve seen in the business. It’s an experience

What’s so funny is, this end-of-year list of champions looks straight out of online fantasy booking, yet they got there naturally. Trios division is still kind of there, but I think a Copeland loss to Mox at Revolution, pivots off into a Rated FTR vs. Deathriders Trios Title match down the line

Our favorite fictional cowboy, tragically broken by the meta. Whether it was standing up to the interim management champion, unfortunate injuries, losses in the family, coordinated online hate campaigns, it’s led to both Adam Page & the actual Adam, suffering in pursuit of being All Elite.

This is why AEW will be here for a while, ‘cause every year, the company ended with somethin that they would inevitably need to overcome, whether a creative misstep, a genuine tragedy, or a general sense of uncertainty about what’s next, AEW still survives & thrives 2025 will be full of surprises.

They are, WWE fans kinda inadvertently admit this with how often they talk about AEW, unprompted. Neither WWE upper management nor their fans realize they’re using AEW as a measuring stick, and they’ve been doing it for 5 years. It’s the Nintendo v. PlayStation of wrestling.

First time in ages a wrestler went Diamond in the ring, in my opinion. If AEW wants to get the most out of this Max deal, there needs to be a “Top Ten Ospreay AEW TV Matches” playlist on the app ASAP.

AEW shot itself in the foot the moment it went more WWE like, I’d say between DON 2023 to All In 2023, and the streak of All Out 2023 to Full Gear 2023, along with the introduction of the C2, is what got them back on track, despite the major missteps with the last few chapters of the Devil angle.

Please quit asking for AEW to do a roster split. WWE is the only promotion that does them, & they can’t stick to it. Please stop asking AEW to be more like WWE; that’s when the problems come up…when they do sports entertainment BS. Let AEW be AEW & do AEW things. It’s worked pretty well for them.

Putting this much wrestling on a TV show that’s actively designed to not prioritize wrestling doesn’t sound smart. I get they want to have a big impact for the Netflix episode, but this is the “One Final Beat” side of HHH’s booking leaking out. Modern WWE structure doesn’t lend itself well to this

Penta will immediately be thrown in the LWO vortex after a decent Rumble appearance, get injured 3-4 months into his run, before eventually becoming Speed Champion & everyone forgetting who he is until Rey Fenix shows up & they’re thrown into a tag team, to feud with LWO & MCMG lol

WWE’s women’s division went to shit because WWE fans don’t care about 75% of the roster/product. WWE, going into 2024 is literally just The Bloodline, Judgement Day, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Rhea Ripley, then everyone else lol HHH has failed Gable & Otis, the Wyatt Six, the women’s division, etc.

Say what you want about Death Riders vs. Rated FTR, but this angle immediately has gotten AEW a significant amount of eyeballs at a pivotal moment, at the end of a very hot PPV, that was supplemented with weeks of long-term TV based booking. TK got to the 2021 vibes by the end. #AEW

(Pictured, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose) & Adam Copeland (fka Edge) AEW PPV: World’s End, December 28th, 2024.

AEW’s recent main-event story arc, “The Deathriders” is a controversial narrative of Moxley & his crew (Trios champions PAC, Claudio & Yuta) & femme fatale Marina Shafir, betraying long time Blackpool Combat Comrade Bryan Danielson, mere months into his first AEW Championship reign, snuffing out his full-time career as well.

In Moxley’s words, more or less, this betrayal was done in earnest, with the hope that AEW’s roster will become as violent as he did during trying times, to dethrone his reign of terror & allow his generation to begin their journey into the sunset, as he did for Danielson.

Should be noted that Moxley is f***ng crazy.

In the months since, there’s been numerous scuffles, title changes, and violent altercations throughout the promotion as a result of this arc, including Moxley most recently (in-kayfabe) pulling the plug on AEW’s C-show, Rampage, a way of integrating the real life cancellation of the 1-hour extravaganza into the ongoing narrative.

As the story has endured its ebbs and flows, it’s drawn a varying degree of opinions, but at the moment, it’s one of the companies most popular angles, as it’s affected every part of the card since its inception, including the C2, the tag division, & the TNT Title scene. It now looks as if we will see how it further affects the Trios & AEW Title scene.

The first chapter of Rated FTR (Cope’s stable) vs. Death Riders already has 8.6M views on AEW’s Instagram, one of its highest viewed videos in quite sometime.
