Always get a kick out of hearing Nova Scotia, and especially Halifax, come up unexpectedly. Joel McHale asks Conan about his interview with Mick Jagger, and Halifax gets a mention. 😄 youtube.com/shorts/WnnqF...

Added a new watch to the collection. The Armitron Griffy is a throwback to the LED watches of the 1970s. Similar to the Plusar that Roger Moore's James Bond wore in Live and Let Die.

Sold off my vinyl decades ago after the CD revolution, so I haven’t owned a turntable in years. Last week an old pal gave me this Tragically Hip album, so I had to fix that. Picked up an Audio-Technica Sound Burger, paired it with Bluetooth speakers, and damn, it sounds good to these old ears! 🎶

Resident Evil is FANTASTIC! Great kick off to Halloween horror movie season. Now, can we get The Odyssey out of #Halifax only IMAX for five minutes so films like this get their due? #ResidentEvil

It's a good day. I wasn't expecting my Sea Quartz 30 to ship until October but it was early. Canadian company, watches assembled in Canada. It's a beautiful thing!

I think this is my best effort so far. M42, the Orion Nebula, with the red and grey outer structure and dark dust lanes around its bright core. M43, the smaller rounded nebula immediately above-left of the core. NGC 1977, the Running Man Nebula, near the upper-left edge

I had to check. Our Costco Executive Membership gives us 2% back on qualifying purchases, so it usually pays for itself. I just haven't brought myself to get the MC. I'm probably leaving more rewards on the table. After this conversation, I may have to revisit that.

Costco, for us. For a while they only took AmEx, so we had an AmEx just for them. They’ve since switched to Mastercard. I didn’t keep up. I’m already bitter that we got sucked into the “Executive Membership.” At that price, there should be a secret door we can use to avoid the lines.

My smart telescope has a cool feature that prevents condensation from building up. Especially handy when I leave it out in the backyard overnight. Here it is next to the power bank I use to keep it running all night. I’m still learning, so hopefully the shots will only get better with time.

My partner got me into this. She uses credit cards for everything, makes sure the balance is paid off every month so there’s no interest, and gets the rewards (cash back/points). Requires a lot of discipline, though. Fortunately, she came with that feature built-in.

I remember getting my first scientific calculator in Grade 10. They were forbidden before that, and I thought it was amazing. Today my Casio FX 9750GIII does graphs, spreadsheets, programming, statistics, equations, matrices, geometry...and plays Tetris. Grade 10 me would lose his mind.

I love watch spotting in movies and TV. Masters of the Air gave me a close-up of Austin Butler’s watch, so I paused and looked it up. Turns out it’s an Elgin from the early 1940s. Now I’m on eBay hovering over “Buy It Now.” This would be my most vintage watch yet.

#Momentum Watches is a Canadian microbrand that has been designing and hand-assembling timepieces in Vancouver, British Columbia, since 1980. I decided now is a good time to get one. Went with the Magnum PI Sea Quartz 30. I could take it diving when I next visit #LakeOntario.

I first spotted Erik the Red about a month ago. I’m 100% a cat person, so of course I had to walk over and see if he was a real cat. I had no idea about his story until I saw this post from the Nova Scotia Museum of the Atlantic. What a lovely tribute.

#Casio says it has produced more than 4,200 distinct #GShock models since 1983. I currently own seven. I like them enough that I bought a case just for them. The case holds 12, which conveniently sets my limit. When I hit 12, I’ll stop. Sure I will.

You win some. You lose some. Our campsite had a canopy of trees, which I normally love for the shade. Not so great for astrophotography. The better of the two shots is C 33, part of the much larger Veil Nebula. The other is NGC 7741, a galaxy in Pegasus.

Crack of dawn. Can't walk through downtown without thinking back 35 years to when I went to school and worked here. As a young man, I loved the hustle. Now the thought of wasting hours commuting here makes me sick. I hate getting older, but I'm glad my career is winding down.

This one really choked me up. Anything involving Terry Fox does. His courage, his determination, and what he gave of himself still hit me every single time. There are heroes, and then there’s Terry Fox. Big “H” Hero. 🇨🇦❤️ youtu.be/tervpo0VZuM?...

Rules are meant to be broken, right? I’ve never really considered a “fashion watch,” but this Alfred Sung caught my eye. Very loosely gives me TAG Heuer Monaco vibes, and man alive, it’s beautiful. The Costco return policy doesn’t hurt either. So far, I love it.

It was a very pleasant, low 20s. Mostly sunny with some clouds made it really comfortable. Our last trip last summer, it was 35° the day we were there. I shouldn't be because it's old Quebec, but I'm su rprised by the lack of air conditioning.

Spent the day in Old Quebec. The building on the left in the first photo once housed a wax museum, where my mom worked when she was in her late teens. I think of her every time I’m here.

My Timex Q would never be mistaken for a Rolex Daytona, which is good because I’ll never own one. 😂 But side by side, you can definitely see the inspiration. Cream dial, black subdials, tachymeter bezel, brown leather strap. It's one of my favorites.

Remember that birthday when toys suddenly stopped hitting the same? For me it was 13. I got a Timex watch that played Aura Lee instead of beeping. Last week I found the same model on eBay. It arrived today, still plays the tune, and the nostalgia hit HARD. Nearly 45 years old.

Mondays can be rough. Today's watch selection is the simplest, lightest, smallest Casio that I own. The Casio MQ-24. Zero complications. Three hands, quartz movement, white dial, black resin, and only about 20 grams. You literally can't feel it on your arm. Can be gotten for around $20 on sale.

Sunday evening wrist check. My Orient Golden Eye II automatic. Orient is a Japanese brand that gets a lot of respect from watch people. A little dressier than what I usually wear, but that open heart dial is really cool. Good pick for winding down the weekend.

After the recent heat, 14° at 7:00 a.m. is a very comfortable temperature. Today’s watch: the Casio AE-1200 “Casio Royale.” It got that nickname because its world-time display resembles the Seiko worn by James Bond in Octopussy. #Halifax #Casio
