Anne Lister coded her relationships, raw opinions, and local gossip in a cypher she called her 'crypthand.' But that wasn't the only code she had. Join #AnneListerCodeBreaker Marlene Oliveira to learn more about how it was built (and later cracked). #AnneListerSummit

On this day in 1840, Anne Lister died at Koutais, in Georgia, aged 49. For today's anniversary we've made her a Victorian mourning card with the maxim she loved best, borrowed from Edward Young's Night-Thoughts: "For human weal, Heaven husbands all events."

It may have rained but we're still in drought. Recent hot weather has led to devastating fires affecting wildlife. Please help protect wildlife by: - Packing a picnic, not a BBQ - Fully extinguishing cigarettes - Taking all litter home - Never setting fireworks off in the countryside

🔥Fires are devastating! Keep the BBQs & campfires for home, always put litter in the bin or take it home, & make sure you extinguish cigarettes properly whilst out in the countryside. If you see any sign of smoke or a fire in the countryside, call 999 & ask for the fire service immediately 🚒

Let’s be frank, the vast majority of fires we’ve seen this summer are not ‘wild’ fires. They’re caused by human behaviour. 😢 We think banning disposable barbecues is a sensible measure. Will you back this national campaign* to ban them from being fold in the UK?

I appreciate plants these days more than I would ever have imagined even a couple of years ago. I think this has sort of developed backwards, from a late interest in birds, to insects, to plants. We humans would be nowhere without all, or even any, of those things.
