I talk a lot about MCAS and TTRPGs. Canadian-Australian living in Alberta. Probably won't follow you if you're American. I get enough of that on every other social platform. Occasional Christian-posting. Occasional Ace-posting.

(I have rudimentary French from living in Quebec on-and-off for a total of two years, and also doing some spotty Rosetta Stone in my school years. I can catch a drift in most cases when reading (about half as much listening), and I can clunk together words in non-grammatical ways to be understood.)

Also a bonkers feeling to suddenly realise hang on, this is NOT my mother tongue!

Just read a sentence in an Instagram story, and didn't even realise it was in French—until I hit the second paragraph and was like hang on, this isn't English?? This is the first time I've been unaware that I'm reading in French, very exciting!

But also please remember this is once sentence from an article about pigeons, this is still extremely developing science.

This is also a fascinating framework to potentially explain why more neurodivergent people have MCAS—if the immune system is a sensory system, we already know that sensory stuff is wonky in people with ADHD and autism. It's part of the same picture.

My mental framework for MCAS has been that the mast cells are traumatised/have PTSD and thus are overreactive, but honestly I like the frame work of "MCAS means mast cells have sensory sensitivities" better than the PTSD version.

Lyndall @lyndallc.bsky.social · 13h
Honestly MCAS makes a lot of sense when you think about the immune system as a sensory system giving information about the environment. MCAS is like, sensory sensitivities that are prone to overstimulation in an immune system way. ALSO mast cells live really close to nerves and now we know why?

". . . the immune system is actually a sensory organ." And all my mast cells said "yeah DUH".

So I'm reading this article about pigeons. And at the end it says, "For a long time, people just thought [the immune system is] there to defend us against pathogens . . . we are all investigating how the immune system is actually a sensory organ." www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks...

Pigeons are famous long-distance flyers. And apparently the liver could be their GPS | CBC Radio
From wartime messages to love letters, pigeons have carried our mail for centuries. A new study suggests the secret to how they find their way might be hiding in an unexpected place: the liver.

This tip is for getting 100% quality. Sewing assist + going wildly over the fabric edge at full speed will still probably get you about a 70-80 in quality. It just makes a nasty crunching sound effect while you do it. 😆

Oooof yeah I close my eyes each time I'm doing just a straight seam, 'cause too much sewing will cause nausea. (If you turn on stitch assist and sew at the slowest speed for around curves/corners you don't have to watch the screen.)

And the lady at the security line entrance who saw me standing and watching my boyfriend until he disappeared, and talked about how she did long distance with her husband, and it was really hard now but I would be ok in a couple days (I was, even though I didn't fully believe her in that moment).

Particularly, the man who was at the gate right after I'd turned away and said goodbye to my entire extended family before leaving Australia at 13. He tried to pronounce my sister's first name (hard), but more than that he was kind and gentle in a way I still remember 20 years later.

seen a bunch of dudebro types playing dressmaker & getting super into it and that's a positive i think, a reminder that the "feminine" can be of universal interest to everyone, but lmao men can never again pretend to not understand their gf's tastes. you know what a juliette-bishop sleeve is now

I really wish more people understood that household tasks can be some of the *most* triggering things possible for chronic illnesses. I just did a timed kitchen cleaning session not to overdo it, and it was harder than my 5k walk yesterday.

I have literally seen dudes tailspin because of a super-casual "Pretty rapey/racist/weird/etc., dude." from a friend. Fuck some girl/brown person and their dumb opinions, they don't care about us. But they are 100% not prepared to hear it coming from you.

My ankle is still swollen, 8 days after this hornet sting. Thankfully have most of my mobility back, and it doesn't itch too much. But this is silly that it's still puffy after a week.

(If your bra or any clothing is leaving marks that last hours rather than minutes, or are chafing and causing pain, then please don't just put up with that! An imprint is different to causing injury.)

AND YET we have so many "feminist" images trying to Make A Point about the bad scary bras because they leave imprints on your skin—LIKE ANY KIND OF TIGHT GARMENT. Calm DOWN.
110
Lyndall @lyndallc.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Can we stop acting like bras and corsets are bad because they leave marks on your skin. Any tight garment or pressure will do that. I get marks from my socks, or from a pyjama wrinkle I slept on, or even from having a skirt bunched up under me. That's just what skin does under pressure over time.

If you are part of an academic society or a professor of any kind, public statements that you do not condone Drexel cutting off the academy of natural sciences from the public of Philadelphia is very important right now. We need your voices. Urgently.
