This was such a fun talk with a serious underpinning - displays of Asian art in many major Australian art galleries leaves a bit to be desired... #inclusivemuseum2026

Cute study with young children in an art gallery using a "tonie" device to see if engages children more than an audio tour or text panel. Answer is yes, and no. What matters is the design, not the device. And, that art galleries need to cater better for young children. #inclusivemuseum2026

A cool activity to reflect on visitor feedback A silent walk, a set of reflective questions (what surprised you, what you expected, etc), feedback via post-it notes, discussion

Interetsing dichotomy between primary and high school students. Although sample is small (see my last post!) these views pretty much align with many studies i have conducted with children - they love museums but want more to do and more stories to increase understanding. #inclusivemuseum2026

From the research sessions picked up nice ways to describe sample sizes: "Depth over breadth" "Small sample, deep data" "Grounded starting points for further exploration" "Qualitative and exploratory" "Understand behaviour and need, not statsticial representativeness" #inclusivemuseum2026

What a fabulous and inspiring talk challenging museums to really think about how they interpret their Pacific collections, with who and how they foreground the political And, its all grounded in family #inclusivemuseum2026

We don't think enough about the spatial experiences of visitors Think about cognitive diversity What is the future of learning? How can we intentionally design spaces for learning that enable visitors to learn inclusively? Museums as 'liminal spaces'
