Interesting day at a Devon village fair. Discussions with farmers, gardeners etc many knowing those who have had #Lyme disease. Children fascinated & repelled by #ticks! Leaflets and tick removers left our stand.

This is the reality of what a tick looks like to you. Would you spot it on your wrist? Best test, when feeling a small scab, is to use your fingers to see if it rocks back and forth. If yes, then get your tick remover!

However, the group classified by UKHSA as "Lyme longstanding" has been rising. Some will not be current infection but the vast majority were late diagnosed and therefore have had a more difficult recovery. They may still be suffering. People diagnosed without a blood test are not reported so we have no idea how many there are. If they had the typical rash, they don't need a blood test, so they should have had early treatment and (if treatment was correct) one hopes a quick recovery.

2 trustees back from #NordTick2026, now have to write up a summary. Many interesting talks & posters. Always good to meet researchers, clinicians & patient orgs we only see at international conferences. Notable how #TBE & #Neoehrlichia are growing topics yet to be major problem in UK.

Very wise! It is those from towns who (this weekend) will be coming to Devon and sitting down in a nature spot in their shorts who need a tick remover handy! Most people have no idea how small these ticks can be, and how painlessly they attach.

If you know you get #ticks attaching to you and you need some protection, why not try a repellent. Plant based, effective and easy to use. www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk/what-we-are-...

New figures on #Lyme disease cases highlights the rise in "longstanding" Lyme. @UKHSA says may be previous disease, not active. But these people had test because of illness. Want #PIFTick accredited info on this? www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk/about-lyme/c... @theguardian.com

Has our view as a patient organisation dealing with tick-borne diseases changed? When we look out at who we try to converse with, is our view A or have we changed it to B? Find out what we said at the European conference here www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk/latest-news/...

Larval stage of tick so tiny it is easy to miss until it itches about 12 hours after attaching, like this one did this a.m. You need a magnifier or short sight. Or feel it wobble. Check before scratching and remove carefully!

Out for a walk? Showers in a few places will bring the #ticks out looking for a meal. Awareness is key - check your skin after being out on the moors, woods, garden. Small scab rocking back and forth? Reach for the tick remover! @ramblersscotland.bsky.social @healthwatchsom.bsky.social

First spot your tick. Would you notice it on your leg? It doesn't hurt or itch until it's been attached for about 12 hours. Remove it with a tick remover and send it to the tick surveillance team @ukhsa.bsky.social
