An important bit of immigration law which is relevant here; there is already a waiver process — Section 212(k) of the INA — by which immigrants who obtain status through fraud that they didn't know about can avoid consequences like losing a green card. So this is *even weaker* than it already seems.

Ha just admit that you're wrong. They are not a thing here, but they could be. Mortgages are just a financial instrument. Maybe the rates on a portable would be higher than people will like, but Canada is evidence that your statement mortgages can't be portable "by definition" is just wrong.
