UPDATE! 🚨 Voting rights orgs today supplemented the complaint in their lawsuit challenging President Trump’s executive order restricting mail voting to add claims against the USPS newly-finalized mail ballot rule. Asking a court to block USPS from implementing the rule for the Nov. midterm elections
Black and purple textured background with and yellow text. Image text reads: "Voting rights groups move to block newly-finalized mail ballot rule. Plaintiffs in League of Women Voters of Massachusetts v. Trump supplement original complaint and seek emergency order to block USPS from implementing mail ballot rule for November Election."Black and purple textured background with and yellow text. Image text reads: "The court has already found that the executive order unconstitutionally usurps the authority of the states and Congress to regulate elections, and the newly-finalized rule eliminates any doubt about the harms stemming from these unlawful acts. Implementing the newly-finalized rule less than 70 days before the general election would dramatically impair plaintiffs' core voter engagement work and pose a grave risk of disenfranchisement.
[The plaintiffs] are asking the court for emergency relief to prevent this harm and to affirm the public's confidence in the systems voters rely on to conduct our elections."

Text reads: "With the November election right around the corner, nonpartisan voting rights groups should be fully engaged in the vital work of educating all eligible voters to prepare to cast their ballots. Instead, [they] are scrambling to understand how the rules may change while fielding inquiries from voters who rely on mail ballots and who are confused and fearful about how they will exercise their right to vote."Purple and black textured background with white and yellow text. Text reads: "President Trump's attempt to seize control of election rules from the states and Congress is clearly unconstitutional and unlawful, and with today's ruling, we will continue to vigorously pursue all available avenues to challenge this executive order. WIN‼️ A federal court today issued a preliminary injunction blocking the US Postal Service from implementing President Trump’s 2026 executive order restricting mail voting. Swipe through (or go to the alt-text) for our statement. ➡️
"'Win! Federal court blocks US Postal Service from implementing executive order restricting mail voting. In granting preliminary injunctions, court finds that President Trump's 2026 executive order is likely unconstitutional and likely to disenfranchise voters in upcoming elections.'"
"'Today's ruling blocks USPS from implementing Section 3 of the executive order for the November 3 midterm elections and any earlier federal election. The court held unequivocally that "the executive branch has no authority to regulate elections" and recognized that the executive order is currently causing "irreparable harm" to both voters rights groups and voters by creating confusion about the mail ballots that millions of voters rely on.'""'This ruling is a victory for voters and for the Constitution. Neither the president nor the US Postal Service has the authority to rewrite election rules. Millions of Americans, including seniors, military voters, voters with disability, rural voters, and citizens living overseas, rely on voting by mail to participate in our democracy. Today's decision reaffirms that the rules governing our democracy must be set by the Constitution and the law, no by executive overreach.'""'The League of Women Voters will continue fighting to ensure that every voter can cast a ballot and have that ballot counted.' Quote by Marcia Johnson, Chief of Activation and Justice for the League of Women Voters."
